Noticed black dots that wouldn't wipe off my screen when viewing some emails with light background. Tried to take a pic. They look square under magnification. Can only see them in very light backgrounds. Tested with light yellow, red, other colors. Thank you.

If you can see those specs throughout the usage on your iPhone and they reappear in the same locations on the display, then they are likely dead pixels.
 
Followup--NOT dead pixels. Trapped under screen protector, which Apple installed and gladly replaced. Whew! I didn't want to be the guy that returned an X for dust in camera housing then guy who had to return 8+ for dead pixels. All is good!
