The accelerometer?

The rattle is present on all of the phones. You shouldn't have gotten a replacement.

No one from apple tech support on the phone or the 3 genius tech ever said anything about it being due to the accelerometer. Also I have 2 3G's and both do not have this rattle. They have accelerometers too...

Still a mystery to me...

As someone already pointed out, it is the autofocus mechanism.

I was just assuming what it was. But I've had three iPhone 3Gs all with the rattle occurring when the phone is shaken vertically in portrait mode.

My new 3GS has given me zero problems. Perfectly fine in paradise as far as I'm going. :)

No problems here as well, i thought i had a battery problem but it turned out to be a "Peggle" addiction ....sucks the life out of my battery. Also loose slient button, but it seems to be normal, even though it doesnt make it right, but dont really care.

overall very satisfied....

What are you talking about? There should not be anything rattling in your iPhone.

I think if you hear the camera lens is rattling, you have a bum lens. There should not be any sort of rattle in an iPhone, 3GS, 3G, or OG.

on this forum, you only hear from the people that have problems with their phones, and get them replaced 5+ times, you don't hear from the people the get a good phone their first time. so yes, they are exaggerated.

I'm on my second 3gs, and comparing it to my girlfriends 2g, its pretty damn yellow.

I dont mind though.

The thing that IS killing me, is the dead pixels. my first one had it, and now i just noticed my 8 hour old replacement has one too. i wish i would have noticed it at the store today.

sigh
