Just wondering because Apple immediately slapped on a $79.60 charge on my credit card. Is that normal? I thought it was only when it shipped.

Are they supposed to charge the card already when you pre-order it?

Those must be the taxes, which they probably do charge instantly. If you cancel you get them refunded though.
Ah okay... then I guess I should be happy it's lower since the order info has the estimated tax as $90.59.
Hm OK that's a bit odd. I ordered through Verizon and haven't been charged yet.
They usually put a temp auth. hold onto your account but doesn't get charged till they ship it out.
They will immediately (usually) do a pending charge for the full price of whatever you paid, be it the price of the phone, taxes whatever. Then if it doesn't ship the pending charge will drop off and you will be charged once it ships. I think this is how it works.
Not sure about Apple but Verizon said they put a "hold on" your card for the specific amount then charge you when it ships
That's what weird.. this isn't a specific amount. It isn't half or anything according to the pre-order info I got in the email which is what makes this weird.
Mine is showing the full amount under pending charges (bought from Apple.com)...

OP - Did you buy a case or any accessories? Even though I bought a phone and case in one transaction they're showing up as separate purchases on my credit card.

I got the same thing after ordering from Apple. Full amount for the phone pending on my CC even though I ordered it through Verizon 24 month installments. I am confused.
