Bigger screens are better...you just need to know how to use it. Kind of like woman and a penis. They all seem to say its fine if its small and a man knows how to use it. Well what if its huge and he knows how to use it also ;)

I'm sorry, that makes no sense when applied to this scenario due to MANY reasons. This isn't about how to use it, this is about comfortability and UE for a broad range of people. Apple doesn't buy into the gimmicks all the time like Droidz.

Last year with the release of the iPhone 4S, 3.5" was the perfect size (Ads are just meant to sell you the current product).

Show me an ad from last year that specifically shows how the 3.5" screen is perfect for one handed use from last year like they are showing this year for the 4" screen....

I thought I wouldn't like a bigger screen but now when I hold a 4 or 4S I go like: Was it this small?

I'd like it to go a little bigger (maybe 4.2") but just increasing its width.

Personally, I am very happy with 4", I wanted a bigger screen with the next Generation iPhone and I got it LOL

I don't work for Apple so I don't know, none of us do.

lol. Okay I understand that no one here works for Apple or so we think but I just wanted some general opinion on what you may think.

You're not stuck with anything. Buy whatever phone you want.

I know I am not stuck with the iPhone if I want a bigger screen but I hate android or any other phone. I will always stay with an iPhone. Just with Apple is what I was stating being stuck with their decision of keeping a 4"

I think they are just easing the masses into a larger screen. They will give a couple years for everyone to get used to the 4" and then in maybe 3yrs increase the width only making it a 4.3" screen.

I would believe they would make it a little wider and make it a 4.3" diagonally. This seems like what Apple would do.

It better not go over 4". It's a freakin phone, if you want a tablet - go get one!

People use their phones a lot. Having more to see on a screen is always a good thing. It's just an option I know people want. Maybe not you but just think of how crazy people are about the new iPhone 5 because of the increase of the screen size. Having a tablet is one thing but increasing the size of the screen to an certain extent never hurts. Like I said, anything over 4.7" would be too drastic. I feel a 4.3" is more reasonable now that I think of it while making the screen slightly wider.

I'd like it to go a little bigger (maybe 4.2") but just increasing its width.

Yeah exactly!

I prefer the 3.5" over the 4", but the 4" isn't a deal breaker. If it gets any taller I'm not upgrading though.

I always thought that the 3.5" display had the perfect width, but I'm glad the height has been increased. I've found it to be a massive improvement, since I do almost everything in portrait orientation.

Now Messages, Mail etc. no longer feel awkwardly cramped when the keyboard is up. It feels as though iOS was really made for this size of display!

I could have lived with the old size, the 4" isnt too bad. Wouldnt want anything much bigger since i carry my phone in the front pocket of jeans or shorts. There are times i still miss my old Razr.

If the market continues to demand larger phones, I see Apple offering 2 versions. Many prefer a 4.8 to 5"+ iPhone and are looking elsewhere now.

They should have moved to 720p like the rest, to allow for larger devices and keeping the PPI competitive.

Actually, demand started sometime ago, and Apple does not follow those demands. Not to mention, they are doing very well with being followers. ;)

4 incher will remain with us for sometime. Thank Goodness :D :apple:

My best guess is that Apple will stay with 4" for a while.

I say that because they obviously think that's the optimal size. Realize that they could have chosen any size for the iPhone 5. They surely considered all the possibilities, and ultimately chose 4".

If the market moves away from them, that would force their hand sooner. But I don't see that happening.

Then he's likely working in gay pr0n.

according to apple, the width of the current iphone has already reached the maximum length that a human hand can comfortably handle. But the height can be increased. So they did that. This shows us that the iphone models yet to be designed would have height increased if they decide to make the display larger. Which will result in having taller iPhones. And those funny images of very tall iphones yet to introduce will be a true story.

I can see them making it bigger by making it wider.

Yeah, they went on and on about how it's the perfect width and that's why they only made it taller, but I guarantee you when they made it wider, they'll just focus on landscape orientation or other features.

I'm assuming Apple plans to have the iPhone stick around for the next 10+ years, so I highly doubt they'll stick with 4 inches for that long. But maybe by then, phones won't even need screens ;)

I personally would like a 4.3+ screen. Yes, it can be inconvenient to touch the opposite corner with your thumb or something, but what you gain outweighs that... in my opinion.

And yes, I have an iPad too, but I can't (and don't want to) take that everywhere I go.

I have an iPhone 5, and I have fairly large hands, and I think 4" is just slightly too big for me. I do like having a screen larger than 3.5"... 3.8" or so would probably be ideal for me.

Anyway, I think 4" is here to stay. I sort of hope that in a few years, when the 4S is set to be discontinued, Apple decides to make an updated 3.5" model. A lot of women, in particular, like the smaller display.

Is this the last time we will see the iPhone get a increase in size of the screen?

Samsung and various other companies continue to increase their screen size of their phones and they reached the limit to what fits in a palm.

Will Apple always keep this 4" screen or is there a possibility they will once again increase it since they still have room to?

Anything over 4.7" is too big to be comfortable in the hands of the general user which Apple won't do.

4.5" is the ideal size but will we see this from Apple?

DO YOU NEED MORE SCREEN? Any larger its obscene and will not fit well in a pocket. You may be able to convert an iPad into a phone and use that.... Lol

4.5" is the ideal size but will we see this from Apple?

Interesting thought. I'm female, but have average sized hands. With the iPhone 5, I can have it resting fully on my palm with my index finger curled over the top (so it's not protruding at the bottom down onto my wrist area). I honestly think 4.5 would be a little long for me.

Given that I'm a bigger than average woman (height wise) with average sized hands, and women are over half the population, I'm not positive that I would agree with 4.5" being ideal. I'm curious about where this number came from.

I can't even begin to figure out what Apple will do in 2 or 4 years though :)

Keeping the ppi competitive? Unless I'm mistaken, the iPhone's Retina Display at 326ppi is the highest pixel density display available on a smartphone (maybe on any device). The GS3 is 306ppi and the One X is 312ppi. So as far as ppi goes, the Retina Display is the winner (although not by much).

They could possibly increase the screen size by just reducing the bezel size or removing the home button altogether in the future.
Exactly. Without changing the size of the phone, Apple could increase the screen size to 4.2-4.3" by reducing the bezel (i.e., the black area around the edges of the screen) and widening the screen.

The current IP5 bezel is rather large, especially compared to some of the latest Android phones.

Apple's PPI is only high now as they have the smallest screen.

The point intended was if down the road Apple releases a larger screen the PPI will be lower than Samsung models that all use 1280x720 or 1280x800.

Apple unless they mess with formatting again is stuck at the lower unusual 1136x640.

I could see them doing it if they can somehow make the front all screen and make the home button a gesture. I can also see them eventually making an iPad mini type of device that also does voice (that's really what the note is).

I hope we're stuck with a 4". I do NOT want one larger. I did want the increase to 4", but this is at my limit for screen size. Even with the 4" screen, I sometimes have to shift my grip to reach certain elements.

Honestly, if a future iPhone is only available with something like a 4.5" screen, I will probably hold on to the previous one for as long as it worked.

Now, if Apple wants to go with a huge screen device, like 4.8 or something...that's fine, as long as they release essentially the same device along side it with a 4" screen. (would actually be a great thing...iPhone 6 with 4" screen. iPhone 6+ with 4.7" screen....internal workings identical (except perhaps a larger battery for the 6+ to keep battery life similar.))
