My macbook seems to have been running a bit slow lately, and I've been thinking about upgrading to 2gigs of ram. I recently removed some widgets from my dashboard though, Translator, Weather and a widget called air traffic control. Would it be totally crazy for me to imagine that it freed up enough memory to make a noticeable difference?

I actually recommend against running ANY widgets on a mac laptop with less than 2 gb of ram. Even if all you do is run safari and itunes, adding 2-3 widgets that look on the 'net periodically for new info will cause a major slow-down.

In fact, I wouldn't use any widgets at all unless you really need them.

I have 7-8 widgets running on my mac pro, but it has 10gb of RAM.
