Had my adenoids removed when I was a kid, not sure if that is the tissue the OP is referring too. Had tonsils removed and tubes put in the ears at the same time. I was told my adenoids were removed due to loud snoring?

Anyways, I got year round allergies so I breath through the mouth roughly 90% of the time. I consciously try to breath through the nose but can't do so for more than a few minutes. I try to be quiet when mouth breathing though as i've heard people complain they could hear it before, I also try to nose breath when in lines.

Looking back at all the things my parent's had done to me when I was a kid, I think most of it was simply due to allergies and could have been discovered by having an allergy test done to find and treat what was causing the issues I had rather than paying for surgery. I had an allergy test done 3 years ago and found out I was allergic to all sorts of pollens, trees, and cats. Funny story: when the doctor came in to check the results of the test he had a concerned look on his face and asked if I was feeling okay, he then turned to the nurse and said it would be quickest for him to tell her what wasn't a "4". The scale for the test went from 0-4 with 4 being the most severe.

Too bad for the monetary loss, but worse for what you went through.

No pics of your back when the test panel was removed??

I bet it would prove quite colourful. ;)

Apparently mouth breathing has some detrimental physiological effects, according to Wikipedia. Never new about that. :/

I think I do both equally, but try to nose-breathe whenever possible.

Man, this s**ks!

Ever since I was a little kid, the doctor told my mom I had sinus problems. Of course, nothing was ever done about it. (Not to mention that I have a huge nose, anyway.) Nonetheless, when I breathe through my nose, my nose dries out really quickly and causes headaches. In addition, obtaining a deep breath usually, but not always, requires me to breath through the mouth.

These days, comments by 30 Rock cast members and Bill Maher got me to thinking about my own use of "mouth breathing". Luckily, I usually do well on standardized test (in the 90+ percentile), and I.Q. tests place me well above 120. So, while I don't think I'm stupid, I do wonder what would have happened if I had sent more oxygen to my brain over the years.

In addition, I began to discover the other health issues and symptoms conveyed due to "mouth breathing". I've noticed that they include chronic dry-mouth, nocturnal drooling, halitosis, (slightly) crooked teeth, tooth grinding, jaw pain (although, I think I benefited with a pretty chiseled jaw-line-Ka-ching!) an over use of parentheses, and depression.

Nose breather here.
A pet peeve of mine though is being in a stall in a public restroom next to a mouth breather.

This made me lol at work. We have a guy at the office who mouth breaths like a mofo. I hate being in the bathroom with him because it sounds like he just finished running a marathon and I don't want to be there when he has a heart attack.

I have allergies and asthma so mouth breathing is a part of my normal routine depending upon the condition of the nose on any given day. :(

I breath through my nose most of the time, also when kissing and/or smelling valuable malts. Or I have a cold.
