What? How is the 3G iPad any different from the original iPhone? There's still an ugly plastic strip for the signal to get through. So really, they didn't solve anything... they're using the same design as the original iPhone. They "solved" the issue by making the iPhone 3G plastic.

So what? Are you implying that the iPad will have the same reception issues that the first generation iPhone had because Apple didn't use plastic this time? Apple must be smoking something to make the same mistake twice. :D

The reason why we're seeing the Alu now on the iPad means the reception issue is history. On the event the same problem persists when the iPads hit the shelves, then Apple must be smoking something.

I mean that they didn't go full aluminum. They added a stupid plastic cover to the top that looks really bad. So yeah, they pretty much just re-created the original iPhone in a larger format.

Just cause it's 3 years old? I don't think I want the iphone to be bigger... a bigger screen means a bigger device is that really what you want? If so get an iMaxiPad? I don't see what could be better about the current screen... maybe someone can enlighten me?

Why is wanting a better screen after 3 years surprising? Technology moves forward you know. Brighter, better colours etc

I don't want an iPad (I'd probably barely use it) but I don't see why the iPhone can't maintain the same basic form factor but have a screen the sort of size we've been seeing on some HTC phones. Gorgeous.

i know there's this event on the 28th of june but it doesn't mean Apple will introduce a new iPhone....and seeing how AT&T said they will not jump on the 4G thing before 2011 i doubt we will get any big upgrades and maybe no upgrades at all this year.;)

I would like to see the next iPhone sporting the same brushed metal casing as the iPad, with the tapered sides and the black plastic inset for 3G reception on top. I don't think it has to get any skinnier, especially if they can boost the battery life and speed keeping it the same.

I'm guessing they'll use their own A4 processor in the next one making it snappier. Hoping for same quality screen as iPad, but it doesn't need to get any bigger. For me the main selling points would be faster CPU, more memory, and a new metal back plate.

If they were to include the orientation lock switch I wouldn't be mad either. Random flipping of the screen when I don't want it has been one of my few gripes with the OS.

I think the plastic back on the 3G/3GS is the weak part of the design. It gets slippery, scratches and cracks easily and doesn't look as good as the brushed metal.

After that it's all about the OS. After using the 3G for 2 years it feels like a snail compared to the 3GS. I hope the 4G does the same to the 3GS, then I'll be happy.

I wouldn't be mad, no. I don't mind the way the iPhone looks now.
I'm just waiting for a carrier change. If that never happens sooner or later I'll get disappointed!

i would like to see OLED display, as they are so much crisper than standard.

a better camera w/flash as well

size wise it about right, any bigger would be to much imho

One of the few truths I've read in this thread.

Alu back. Since the reception issues only plagued the older iPhone, seeing that the iPad sports Alu now and reception issues resolved, this will be a possibility for the iPhone 4. Personally I don't care. I just want a lighter iPhone. If Apple decides to go plastic again, just make it sturdier and less crack-prone.

Bigger Screen. Nope, don't hold your breath. The SDK for App devs are specifically for 3.5 inches only. Having a bigger screened new iPhone will stretch the hundreds of thousands of Apps that we are using now. Android does that but that's very un-Apple:p, We will see the same 3.5 inch size but there's a possibility the 320 x 480 pixels will be upgraded to 480 x 800 pixels (similar to the Nokia N900 and the Samsung OmniPro screens). AMOLED? Although I'd love this, I'm skeptical Apple may want that outdoor visibility limitation. Now if Apple could utilize Samsung's newest screen technology they're coining Super AMOLED (used by the Samsung Wave); superior indoor and outdoor visibility, now that's the utmost in screen tech right now. But yep, knowing Apple, I'd see them sticking to LED but upgrading the pixels.

Are you sure the SDK currently specifies screen as 3.5"? I would have thought it would be based on the resolution (320x480).

Anyway, even if not this year, at one point the screen has to get upgraded. I would think it would be possible going forward with a new SDK that when developing an app it can be compiled for multiple resolutions.

i wont be dissapointed if: A) the new IPHONE is even close to the HTC EVO

OR

I'll just get the HTC EVO so I wont be dissapointed LOL sell my 3gs
