I’ve had white keyboards for years and they are actually easier to keep clean looking than the black ones which show with shiny wear on the keys.

that’s probably true. Still got the surrounding white part to contend with. Maybe that won’t look as worn either not sure

as long as you cover that white exterior you should be good

What 😳 white boring 😳 find the white magic keyboard to be drool worthy, it’s one sexy keyboard, if I had a use case for it, I’d be all over it in a heartbeat.
It’s very nice. :) I was happier to get an open box black one for much cheaper and put a pretty skin on it.

I am indeed attracted to the White MK, as reported earlier I ordered and cancelled twice due to fears of not be able to keep it looking somewhat clean. Yes, in the end I'm wondering how many white MK's are going to be "skinned alive" ;)

If Apple was smart, they would have offered the Magic Keyboard in the new pastel colors and even some with swirls (so to speak).

I can't believe that you guys buying a 20-30 USD protective cover for the 350 USD keyboard for the 1000 USD iPad.

Americans must be unfathomably wealthy.
Unfortunately I have to blame Apple for this. The material used, on the exterior of both the Smart Keyboard Folio and the MKB, is subject to deterioration on the surfaces of the device that rest on whatever surface you’re using the iPad on. I‘ve looked at any number of YouTube Apple keyboard reviews and almost all of them that had been used for a while had developed roughened areas visible in the reviews even though they weren’t mentioned by the reviewers. Just as my SKF had. And I’ve only ever used it on either a pillow by itself or on one of those lap desks sitting on a pillow. Never had it on any rough or harmful surface.

Because of that I’ve purchased Sopigard skins - https://sopiguard.com/ - for both. There’s really been no need to cover anything other than the bottom surface that rests on the desk, lap or whatever surface you use it on. The other areas hold up quite well and only need to be wiped down with a slightly damp towel. Apple should have dealt with this and are certainly aware of it by now, as long as these keyboards have been out by this time.

If only we had open box magic keyboards for sale here in Aus 🥺 congrats on the smart purchase.

No skin for my magic keyboard. I’m sure it’ll be fine. And when it needs a wipe down, I’ll do it just like I did with my last black one.

The keyboard Folio is the one that developed the roughened corners on mine… seems that’s where i grab it to take it out of my backpack. I hated how it looked, so when i learned about the skins… it made it all better, no one including myself can see those roughened patches. Now the MKB, that one has help up better, but i didn’t want to risk it. It got a skin also.

Can’t wait for my dBrand to come in for the “new” MKB for the 12.9”. It’s new but the 2020 style, that I got at a nice discount.

Mine did also but it’s only been out a year or so maybe. The material is the same as SKF that I’ve had since I got my 2018 iPP and essentially babied it. It was never in a bag, just on a pillow or lap desk and I gradually saw those rough spots. I’d say after about 2 years the MKB will look the same. That’s why I got skins, first for SKF and about 3 months ago for the MKB. As much as that one costs I really would have been pained to see roughened areas pop up.

You’re just doing for exterior too right, not the inside palm rests and area above the keys?

Correct. I’ve never seen any worrisome issues on the interior. I’ve looked at a ton of YouTube video reviews of these keyboards and I’m certain these people use their units a lot more than I do and I’ve never seen any interior issues. But when they turn them over or reposition them they are clearly visible on the out side. I normally don’t even bother to cover the top area with the camera cutout, haven’t seen any issues there either. Normally I get a black skin, like carbon fiber and use that so it almost looks as if it is native to the keyboard. More vibrant or brighter colors I‘d probably do both top and bottom.

It’s hard to find other accessories that fit and look as good as apples do. 🥺

Do like the Brazilians do (understandably - because they have the worst pricing in the world, literally): book a flight to USA and do all your Apple shopping across all product lines of interest in one fell swoop and then enjoy yourself for a few days and fly back out, and you will still have saved significantly + gotten a vacation out of it.

Yeah, I don't have any wear on my day one MK palm rests either (or anywhere else, but I have had a skin on the outside).

I could see it getting greased up with my use (try to use clean hands , don’t go to town on typing after chick FilA without washing up, etc) but such is life.
I like the feel of the material on the inside contrasted With the keys

This. Couldn't decide whether or not to keep my black one so went to the store to see the white in person. The white is stunning! And much much cleaner than the black ones on display with smudges, finger grease, etc. Honestly don't think the white will get dirtier than the black -- you can't see the smudges! That said, at the end of the day after much hand-wringing I kept my black one. Not because it will stay cleaner as I don't think it will! I got it because after using it for a week I have bonded with it! And, I think the white might be a tad distracting for movies and such whereas the black just disappears and blends into the screen. Honestly they are both great choices but having seen them side by side I would not worry about the white one getting too dirty!
