Will people on iOS 6 no longer be able to install apps when they are updated for iOS 7? Or will the App Store simply offer the last iOS 6 compatible version?

Or will apps work on both?

No, they will only work on the latest iOS if developed against the iOS 7 SDK exclusively. Only new apps should be dropping support for iOS 6 this early.

I think apps will get updates on the 18th, we the Public Release is available...I might be wrong though.

The CIBC banking app was updated yesterday with the description "Enhancements to support the new operating system". Sure enough, the app now works with iOS 7 beta 6, whereas it didn't work before this update.

Hell yeah!! it will be fun watching the updates come in.. I had a blast watching apps be updated for the 4" screen.. fun times again :)

I kind of doubt that we will se many prior to the 18th though. There is no reason to release them until then.. might as well use the time to get things as good as possible :)

Tweetbot would be interesting. Wether they stay with their own robo-industrial even-blockier-than-iOS6 look that sticks out like sore thumb or they modify it to fit better in somehow.

I think seeing apps getting updated is the most exciting part for me now. Gonna pass on the 5c and 5s since my nearly 2 year old iPhone 4S is still in perfect shape and iOS 7 GM is performing so beautifully on it. :)

Oh, they are going to definitely update it, after reading the dev's comments after WWDC. It'll still have a unique look, though. There 'a a fake mockup floating around that might be a possibles direction:

I think it looks a little plain, but hopefully they can come up with something that has character yet fits.

oh really? I thought once they had the GM it was free game
why would they update an app when most people still have iOS 6 and won't really understand or care for the new look without being in iOS 7.

So they won't have to update on iOS 7. It's not like the whole world will have iOS 7 on the 18th anyway, a lot of people will get it later.

Sure, but at least they can update if they want to at that point. And the vast majority update rather quickly too. So from business/marketing point of view certainly no reason to do it before everyone can actually update. And that's not counting the fact that Apple can hold off on approvals for such changes until the 18th at least.

PocketArnold does not work at all

To submit for review, yes. But Apple holds releasing them until the iOS update is publicly released. Maybe even day after.

Hmm maybe thats why BBM have been submit for review (according to reports) about 3 weeks ago but still not released :)

I think im more excited about new apps and updates with redesign and new apis than for the iphone 5s :D

no you're wrong, you're wrong :(

Nope, I'm right. Go look back to a year ago for iOS 6 and their app updates. Apple take about a week to review, they'll release iOS 7 on 18th, once the server hammering dies down, they'll start letting the app updates come out.

That could be likely, tho if they submitted using the new SDK, I'm surprised it didn't just flatly get rejected until yesterday when they started taking the submissions.
