Transgendered may not be as small a minority as currently believed - I just saw something on the intertubes yesterday (don't ask me to go find it again) about a school in Thailand adding a third 'neutral' bathroom to the usual boys & girls ones after surveying the students and discovering over 200 identified as transgendered, out of a student body of 2600. Which makes it 1 in 13. A quick google on prevalence shows this is a staggering thousand times greater than the official medical surveys of 1 in 10,000 (roughly). So the question is in regards to Thailand's more accepting of transgenderism - is it culture actually *affecting* the kids, or is it culture *allowing* the kids? I personally believe the latter because the Dutch survey is only counting those who have decided to do something about it, not all those still in denial/closet/confused/etc - ie, lift the veil on a previously social taboo things (eg, gays coming out of the closet, or women prepared to report rape) and the numbers increase dramatically compared to when people are forced to conceal because of the stigma. As we all know, there are officially no gays in Iran at the moment! And two weeks ago there was no opposition to Gaddafi in Libya. ;)

Sorry for the tangent. The early results so far of this poll shows 'it's complicated' at near 1:10 which makes it closer to the Thai school survey than to the more 'official' prevalence figure of 1:10,000. Or even 1:1000. Or even 1:100.

I'm male and I'm glad I'm not female. I couldn't be bothered with the whole cycle thing....

I'm surprised that's what people are surprised with, so far the female stats are higher than I've seen them in previous polls and the "it's complicated" results are insane! I wonder how many of those are serious though.

Personally my user title gives it away.
