Started with the Apple Watch series 4 then then series 6, and soon to be series 8.
Why did I buy it at first? I think the health integration so I’m aware of any health problems and it sort of keeps track of my activity level so if I’m falling below my minimum, I realize I need to pick it up. Yes I realize it’s not going to replace a doctor, but it has and will in the future alert me of some conditions where I need to go to a doctor.
Why did I upgrade and continue wearing it? Well, the series 6 sold me with the always on display. That made my Apple Watch, a watch where I can see the time without doing that weird wrist twist. Of course all the health and workout features keep me as well.
Why did I upgrade to the series 8? I think just an incremental upgrade and maybe looks because I liked the way the aluminum silver finished looked in the pictures. I haven’t seen it in person yet.
I just had to take my series 4 and series 6 to the Apple store for battery replacement. That was a whole week without wearing my Apple Watch. I noticed me looking at my wrist for the time and then thinking oh I have put my phone on my pocket. Yeah I know first world problem, right 😂
I also realized I can’t pause my music or podcasts from my wrist. I missed having notifications because I don’t notice them on my phone because it’s on vibrate at work. I missed my activity rings and being aware of how active I am. I also missed sort of a safety blanket, knowing that if something catastrophic happened, I could get help from my wrist.
Even before cell phones, I really didn’t like wearing a watch and I still don’t like bulky watches. That’s why I buy the smallest Apple Watch and would never buy that fancy new explorer watch. I used to keep a Timex watch on my belt loop to tell the time. I’m really surprised I’m still wearing the Apple Watch as much as I disliked wearing watches I would never choose not to wear one now.
