Number. However, being that IMO there will not be as much of a performance boost with the A10 as it is also 14nm. I could be tempted to give the wife my 6 to replace her 5C and go with a 4.7 6s. I'll need to wait to see real world performance reviews. People who think this is not a major mid cycle simply are only looking at Force Touch. There is MUCH more under the hood. The A9 will blow the A8 out of the water, and be significantly more efficient. The new Qualcomm LTE chip is lightning fast if your service is up to it. The new camera will be very impressive even in low light with smaller pixels.

The 6s IMO, is the largest mid cycle refresh ever. However, I do love my 4.7" 6. So it will need to meet the predictions in the real world. :apple:

Neither. I am on a sim free contract so the money I save on a phoneless contract plus the sale of my current phone means I ca upgrade every year

This!

That's what I do too. Last year though I couldn't afford to pay for the 6 outright so I went with the finance option instead and paid it monthly for 12 months. In total, it works out that it'll cost me an extra £40. Not bad in my opinion.

This year I'll buy it outright if I can, but if not then I'll just finance it again.

Been on the "S" cycle since the 3GS back in 2009 and I have no intentions of switching sides/cycles. I'm fine waiting a year for a new design if it means the internal upgrades and design issues are hammered out.

Looking forward to jumping from launch day 5s to a launch day 6s+ next month!

Same here! I like this cycle as well. I just hope I don't get screwed (like Verizon customers) with non subsidized, no contract pricing. I'd rather not pay full price for my phone.

I can upgrade whenever but I tend to stick with the S models. It seems they future proof better. 4S for example still going (albeit not strong). And the 5S with 64bit will likely be around for quite sometime.

Screen size has never really interested me because I value a smaller device. However things like a better camera, ApplePay, OIS, and potential upgrades to the 6S like SAMOLED , 2gb RAM, and force touch really peak my interest. Plus as a verizon user I'm really interested in VoLTE for simultaneous data and talk. So I'll probably be upgrading to the 6S.

My only iPhone is the 4S, which I bought new when they came out in 2011. I plan to go to the 6S. It seems that the S tidies up any inadequacies of the previous new model number. In the grand scheme of things, though, I don't think it's a great issue whether one goes with the new number or the next-year S model.

god I've varied over the years.

iPhone 4
iPhone 4s
iPhone 5
iPhone 6 Plus

Buy the iPhone out right and use SIM only, will most likely stick the numbers from now on, but as I've mentioned on other threads unless the 'S' series shows something that's worth me upgrading then I would.

Numbered cycle for me. I know the "s" cycle have more significant under the hood improvements, but they just don't feel like a new phone to me and lack excitement.

I've been on the number cycle but have bought the S version of the previous phone (ie, 3GS when the 4 came out, 4S when the 5 came out). Not sure what's going to happen now that secondary retailers like Best Buy and Target can't sell AT&T iPhones on contract anymore. Doubt I'll do as well on trade-ins at an AT&T store as I've done with those places. We might just give in and go the NEXT route when our contract is up.

We were in a similar position about 2 months ago. AT&T was willing to cancel my contract on the 3 lines (of 5) that were still under contract IF we switched to MobileShare/NEXT and bought new devices for those 3 lines. So we bought 3 iPhone 6 devices for them, moved stuff around, got the other devices unlocked (because they're now out of contract) and sold the devices to offset some of the cost. Now we have 5 lines, all with relatively new devices and even with the NEXT payments we are saving about $30 month. And the other two lines are immediately available for device upgrades via NEXT. Of course we're waiting for the new iPhones.

I am still not saying that it's the right move for everyone, but in my case, it made sense.

Sometimes. The 5S introduced a slew of problems with a 64bit processor. It wasn't until well into its life cycle before it was straightened out.

I know this has been asked to death, but is now interesting considering the "S" variant is nearly out.

I am planning to switch from the normal 5 to the 6S, as the "S" brings a great improvement to an already good phone.

For those upgrading every year, do you prefer the new numbered iPhones or the "S" variants when they come out?

Thanks :)
I am for my 1st line, but 3 years ago I added a dummy line for $10 per month so I could upgrade every year with AT&T.

S cycle. First iPhone was a 4S and now I've had a 5S for nearly two years. Still undecided and will probably wait for the key note in 3 weeks.

I upgrade every year, I usually get enough for my device where I would just have to cover $300 or so for the newest model.

I'll be on the S upgrade cycle when I get my iPhone this year.

I used to be a number cycle before I left for Android

I'm on the S cycle, so with my contract ending with EE in October I'm going for the next one this year. However I've decided to change to a sim-free contract and buy my own phones from now on....so hopefully every year I can upgrade.

If they bump up the ram to 2gb then maybe I'll go for the 6s plus.....which means I could sell my iPad Mini 2 and 2008 MacBook Pro 15" and buy the new MacBook or a 15" MacBook Pro from the refurb store....although I wouldn't have a iPad then so I may have to buy another one of those.....

And then of course there's the rumoured Apple TV 4... So I could sell one of my 3's and buy the new one...

Wow! Looks like the end of this year could be expensive....damn you Apple!

As a device I use all day 365 days a year, I think the £200-£300 annual price tag is easy enough to swallow. So I always get a new device each year.

Thinking of switching to the Plus this year so I also get a 'new' device as well as the bumped HW.
