It says “slow charging”. How did you get “peasant charging” from that?

How is “you have the option to charge faster and save time” a bad thing?
You are reading between the lines that aren’t there.

Dontcha know?

It's the same as the coolant temperature gauge in your car surreptitiously commenting on whether you vote red or vote blue. 😉

Heaven forbid when the "Not Charging" indicator shows up.

You’re reading that wrong. Slow charging is preferable for battery longevity, hence that display is to reassure you that you’re indeed using the better charging option.
Indeed. I proactively choose to charge my iPhone with the classic 5W power adapter that used to ship with the iPhone 6/7/8… mine is the SE 3 so I think a 5W charger is the appropriate one.

This may come as a shock to some people here, but not everything Apple does is a cynical money grab.

Imagine this posting instead: "Apple lied! They said this phone had fast charging. I have a brand new, 12W charger I just bought for $6 on Amazon, and it's still slow! False advertising!"

Hmm okay I charge my phone at work with my work radio that has a built in usba port and my phone says slow charging all the time because it only charges at 5 watts and I don’t feel like it is mocking me. So to the person who posted this thread I just think you need to down grade your phone maybe a iPhone 3G would be good for you then no more insults being thrown at you 😂🤣😆

More like "hey, we have this charger for 70 bucks, you will charger faster if you give us money for it" ha ha ha!
70 bucks???

If you're using any recent iDevice, you're not a peasant.

Buy a fast charger. Cables and bricks don't need to be MFI or genuine, you can get some decent, safe and fast cheap options. In the UK check out CeX, good warranties also should they break.

Close, but not quite the apple store. But apple wants you to buy THEIR accessories when they shame you with the slow charging. ha ha ha. I would never buy them either. Just making the point.
I'm sure Apple would love for you to buy their $69 charger. I'm sure lots of people do, and they probably work just as well as any other. There's nothing wrong with buying OEM-branded accessories. But there are third party alternatives that work just as well and cost less. Any charger that's labeled USB-C PD has to meet certain performance standards.

It's ridiculous to extrapolate from a "slow charger" warning to saying that big evil money-hungry Apple is trying to "shame" you into buying an overpriced accessory.

All they are saying is "don't blame us when the charger you got with your iPhone 5 doesn't cut it anymore."

I know when I'm using a slow iCharger, I don't need to be shamed for it every single time. Also, iPhoneOS clearly knows the charging time to 80%, and it chooses to shame me instead of giving me the correct charging time. Steve Jobs would be proud!

I don't think Apple's intention is to point a finger at you and call you poor. Their intention is to make clear to you that the slow charging of your iPhone isn't an iPhone problem.

This is about Apple waving away responsibility for the slow charging. It's not about you.

I agree. It's less usable for me to be told I'm using a peasant charger vs the time to 80%. Feels like they hide the useful info and show me something useless. I've got the charger I've got, now tell me how long it will take or nothing at all. At least let me switch off the 'slow peasant charger' text if I don't want it.

How do you enable this notification? I've never seen it on my 15PM
Try to charge it with an USB-A to USB-C cable using a 5W charger. I've also seen it on a charger putting out slightly less than 12W, but not on a true 12W USB-A charger.

Preferences-wise, I have optimized battery charging and clean energy charging enabled in the iSettings app.

On the watch I wish it was more prominent. Some watch chargers are fast, some are slow. And the only way you can tell is to look at general -> battery.

Same with macs. How much wattage is that usb-c cable? You have to look in system profiler.

I choose to use a 5watt for overnight charging and a 12watt while at work. We have a bunch of 20watt bricks at home I just would rather use up the slower ones while they are usable. I will not be shamed into fast charging lmao. I don't need to charge my phone any faster as it is, I don't have a phone addiction.

Haha, I get what you mean, it does feel a bit unnecessary sometimes. If the system already knows the estimated charging time, it would be more helpful to just show that instead. Not everyone is always using a fast charger, and that’s totally fine. Hopefully they improve this in future updates.
