No problem. We can put the value of your current device on a gift card that you can use anytime. Get an estimate through the trade-in tool and choose the Apple Gift Card option.
Oh nice. Didn't know that.

Once you’re in the ecosystem, it’s hard to go back to anything else. I went to a high end gaming PC for a while and doing anything that wasn’t gaming made me want to gouge out my eyes. So now I stick with everything Apple and just game on my PS5 and Switch and life is much less stressful.
Interesting. I find it very easy to move in and out. Particularly with the computer, I actually prefer Windows 11 to MacOS, I don't feel like I give up anything, there's a bit more control, runs all the games, it's far more compatible with old apps, Explorer is better than Finder (which I find ancient and awkward), overall looks nicer and more modern.

I just enjoy the ecosystem and I find myself able to work a lot easier in the macOS environment, especially when working on graphics and photo/video editing because of macOS's consistent design language throughout the OS and the apps I use (and the way macOS renders fonts is significantly better than Windows). But that's the beauty of choice and it's good that we have options. I definitely like Windows 11 a lot more than previous versions (the last Windows I enjoyed was 7). They did a good job modernizing the interface, but I just prefer macOS for work. That and there aren't any Windows laptops on the market that hold a candle to the battery life of Macs and I'm constantly on the go.

As a coder, MacOS is my least favourite platform because it breaks compatibility with older stuff more than Windows and Linux, and it's far more opaque and complex in terms of deployment, due to the app-as-a-folder structure. Definitely Mac ports are my least favourite. This is because I do multi-platform stuff. If I stuck to XCode and did only Mac stuff, it would be easier, but Apple, as usual, is hostile to anything involving other platforms.

For usability, I think Windows has a slight edge (provided you install something like MinGW).

I don't care much about the ecosystem, although I agree that copy & paste between devices is nice. I've been very careful to keep out of iCloud and having the passwords replicated between Keychain and Chrome, so I can quickly bail out of the Apple ecosystem whenever necessary.

Yeah, I can understand that perspective doing cross-platform coding. You have to use what works for you. It's as simple as that. I mostly do graphics and photography/videography and the occasional music compositions and macOS is my happy place. I don't use Safari or keychain. I use Brave with Bitwarden. The lack of extension support in Safari is a big reason I'll never use it. Brave works with all Chrome extensions so that's a huge plus for me. I enjoy the rest of Apple's services, though. I refuse to be browser/password locked into a platform. Sonoma is supposed to alleviate some of that pain, but I still think Bitwarden is far superior to anything Apple is offering.

That's fair. I'm personally happy with Chrome and Safari. I can use any browser really, I don't care that much.

Nope.

Sadly, I will be departing the sunlit uplands of Appletania, and will become a Googleonian from early October. The Pixel 8 pro has got my tech juices flowing. I've grown a bit bored of Apple and their tiny, year on year incremental improvements just to reel in the punters, and then charge you handsomely for the privilege - plus, those iPhone colours this year! Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus. How exciting.

I used lots of Samsung phones in the past, but the last one I owned before switching to iPhone was a Galaxy Note 20 (not the Ultra). It was okay for my usage but not that great as it was lacking some features. The screen refresh rate was only 60hz and the battery life wasn’t that good.
Then I got my first iPhone about 2 months which was a 14 Pro Max. I did own a MacBook already (got it earlier this year) so it wasn’t really my first experience with the Apple ecosystem and I already had an Apple ID.
There are lots of things I really liked about iOS. The quality of the apps in general is notably better than Android. Coming from 60hz to 120hz too, the software experience is notably smoother and more seamless. It feels way nicer to look at.
I don’t really care much about iMessage and FaceTime because they’re not that common in my country and no one uses them (even those who own iPhones), so those don’t really matter that much to me.
Though I do have to say the experience in general wasn’t really that different. Yes, I was confused about some stuff in the UI at first (such as the control center and the notification bar not being in the same place, unlike Android) but I got used to it pretty quickly.
The continuity features between the iPhone and the Mac are really nice too. Being able to copy & paste between devices with the same Apple ID, backup files with iCloud, AirDrop, have the same Safari tabs and bookmarks on both devices, etc. Yeah it’s all very seamless, and it feels like both devices just work together ! This is one of the things I was definitely missing with Android/Windows.

There’s not so much that I miss from Android to be honest, as I also rarely used all the customization features available there, but I do miss being able to organize my apps and put them anywhere on the screen.. yeah, I don’t really understand why you can’t do that on iOS (even though you can do it on macOS). I also really miss having a clipboard in the keyboard as I used this feature a lot. But otherwise, I don’t really miss lots of things from Android.
And yeah I do get that it’s a personal preference. Some people prefer Android and some others prefer iOS which is totally fine. I have never used iPhones or any Apple devices until this year, so this is like my first time ever. Even though it has only been a few months, I feel like I’m starting to prefer the overall look and simplicity of iOS/macOS over Android/Windows. I don’t really see myself going back to Android/Windows any sooner.
Welcome to the Dark Side. 🤪
It's fun hearing your experience from both sides - thanks for sharing. As nice as the hardware is, Apple One is the heart of what I find most invaluable about The Ecosystem. Having my digital life aligned across all devices is pretty fantastic. Have fun on your "new" journey. Cheers!

To be fair, almost every single company out there does year to year incremental upgrades nowadays. It’s fine to be bored of Apple and want a change but I wouldn’t expect anything different from Google phones and their year to year changes.

I never traded in through Apple, but I heard it’s seamless and easier than selling. I just want the option to trade in in a physical Apple Store vs mailing it in.

I have always traded my older iPhones with Apple when I upgraded. I don't trust selling it to people anymore with so many scams and shady people out there nowadays. Plus, the Apple store trade-in process is just so quick, easy, and convenient especially if you're picking up the latest iPhone in-store. I definitely will be keeping an eye on how much Apple will offer for the 14 pro max towards the 15 pro max/ ultra.

I’m still debating if I want to trade in with Apple or accept the $850 offer from Decluttr. I would rather put the trade in value back on the method of payment vs a gift card.

I hope they offer over $720 for the 14PM towards the 15PM.

I changed my 11 Pro's battery last year in November, it was terrible. Then the new battery went bad (it expanded and pushed out the screen) so I changed it again in February.

Now it's at 96% health but I end up often under 20% charge in the evening, sometimes under 10%. When freshly replaced it was around 30-35% charge in the evening, so it feels more degraded than the health meter would suggest.

Am I unlucky or are the new batteries really bad? I see on the forum people with iPhone 14s with not so great batteries, while here I personally know people with ancient iPhones and original batteries that hold up better.
I had an 11 Pro. I think something was wrong with some of those batteries. I had to get a battery case for mine to get through the day. Also. It frequently would get super hot for no apparent reason even without using a battery case.

One time, I thought it would burn up. It hurt my hands it was so hot. I ran to the basement where we have a granite countertop and nothing flammable around and I put my suddenly burning hot phone down on that cabinet and called for my husband. He isn’t as sensitive to the heat so he was able to shut the phone down and let it cool down.

It really reminded me of my second Samsung Note 7 that Samsung thought was safe to give us as replacement for the potentially explosive first Note 7. But I never had a problem with the first Note 7. The second one did seem like it would burn up.

I was glad to get rid of my 11 Pro for this reason even though the midnight green was beautiful and I liked other aspects of owning it.

Oh wow mine doesn't quite do that. It gets hot if used for a long time (e.g. CarPlay) and then it won't charge as thermal protection kicks in, but never quite that I think it will catch fire.

Love the shape, it's essentially the nicest X ever made. I never liked the newer ones with sharp edges, I use mine without a case.

Thank you ! I’m planning on getting more Apple stuff in the future as well so I can get more of the “full” ecosystem experience 😄

Very curious about iPad and Apple Watch. I tried some Android tablets in the past, but I wasn’t very interested in them. They were nothing more than just a phone with a big screen for the most part, so they didn’t seem that important to me.
iPads on the other hand seem very superior compared to Android tablets. They seem more than just an “iPhone with a big screen”. I’ve seen lots of people using them as a laptop replacement, which got me wondering how powerful they could really be. Well, the iPad Air and Pro models have already been getting the new Apple Silicon chips (which were originally designed for Macs) so they must be indeed very powerful.
I’d also love to try the experience of using the Apple Pencil, especially as an artist myself. I’ve always used my phone to draw (yes, I draw with my fingers haha) but I’m curious about the experience of drawing on a tablet using a digital pen.

So yeah, while not very necessary for me (unlike a phone and a laptop), I’d still love to try an iPad someday. Same thing for the Apple Watch. Aside from it being a nice fitness device, I kinda like the idea of it helping you spend less time on your phone, by using it to check notifications and answer calls. Neither of them are that important to me right now, but they still seem nice to have especially with the very seamless integration of the Apple ecosystem. Definitely looking forward to checking them out someday in the future.

If you go back into the Apple Store with your trade within two weeks of your purchase they will put the amount back on the card that you purchased with. I have done that with both a MacBook and an iPhone.

I currently have a mini 13, going for the 15PM I'm excited for the larger screen and 120hz.
keeping my mini as a backup.

Well this sounds fun!

If you're already used to drawing on a phone with your fingers, an iPad mini 6 + Pencil 2 combo will likely blow your mind. I've had many iPads over the years, and my iPad mini 6 has been my favorite/most-used iPad to date. Adding Pencil 2, especially as an artist, illustrator, doodler, note taker, etc., is a no-brainer. Can't recommend that combo more.

Apple Watch, for me, is interesting. I grew up wearing a wristwatch. Starting in college, I went on a 2-decade hiatus from wearing a watch (likely some weird perspective about being trapped by time or something). My re-entry into wearing a wristwatch was the original launch day Apple Watch. After series 0, I moved up to series 5, where I currently sit (so I am a little behind on the latest Watch tech). But I've enjoyed wearing a watch again, especially one as capable as Watch. That said, I don't spend much time tapping around on my Watch. As you touch on above, my favorite "feature" is that I've found I pull out my iPhone a lot less with Watch in the mix. Notifications are what I appreciate most about the Watches I've used.

Anyway, keep us posted should you expand your ecosystem. I'm likely not alone when I say I'd be curious to learn more about your experience moving from Android and going deeper into iOS.

Cheers!

Definitely buying a 15 Pro, intending to keep it for as long as possible.

Currently have a 13 mini but miss the larger screen. I'm one of those that buys a new phone every year, sometimes switching and changing multiple times a year, but decided now that we're getting USB-C the 15 Pro would be a good phone to keep for a while.

I expect the next time I'll upgrade after that will be when Apple releases either a foldable phone -or- we finally get a full screen device with under-screen camera/FaceID. So maybe what 3 years or so?

Ready! The 14pm has been kinda lackluster. I wish I’d held on to my sierra blue ip13pm

Anyhoo I’m ready to move on from this soulless device!

Can you guys believe it’s almost here again? After a whole year almost, we’re just two more days away!

Ahh, I’m so excited I kind of peeed a little and I should go clean that up now. Peace out!

This is validating to read. I feel the same way about my 14PM. Soulless is a perfect way to describe it. I just am not a fan of this phone.

There’s features from it I wouldn’t want to live without (48MP, 2000 nits, Dynamic Island), and I still wouldn’t choose another phone over this one, but I just liked the 13 series so much better. iPhone 14 was not a good upgrade year for me.
