I used lots of Samsung phones in the past, but the last one I owned before switching to iPhone was a Galaxy Note 20 (not the Ultra). It was okay for my usage but not that great as it was lacking some features. The screen refresh rate was only 60hz and the battery life wasn’t that good.
Then I got my first iPhone about 2 months which was a 14 Pro Max. I did own a MacBook already (got it earlier this year) so it wasn’t really my first experience with the Apple ecosystem and I already had an Apple ID.
There are lots of things I really liked about iOS. The quality of the apps in general is notably better than Android. Coming from 60hz to 120hz too, the software experience is notably smoother and more seamless. It feels way nicer to look at.
I don’t really care much about iMessage and FaceTime because they’re not that common in my country and no one uses them (even those who own iPhones), so those don’t really matter that much to me.
Though I do have to say the experience in general wasn’t really that different. Yes, I was confused about some stuff in the UI at first (such as the control center and the notification bar not being in the same place, unlike Android) but I got used to it pretty quickly.
The continuity features between the iPhone and the Mac are really nice too. Being able to copy & paste between devices with the same Apple ID, backup files with iCloud, AirDrop, have the same Safari tabs and bookmarks on both devices, etc. Yeah it’s all very seamless, and it feels like both devices just work together ! This is one of the things I was definitely missing with Android/Windows.
There’s not so much that I miss from Android to be honest, as I also rarely used all the customization features available there, but I do miss being able to organize my apps and put them anywhere on the screen.. yeah, I don’t really understand why you can’t do that on iOS (even though you can do it on macOS). I also really miss having a clipboard in the keyboard as I used this feature a lot. But otherwise, I don’t really miss lots of things from Android.
And yeah I do get that it’s a personal preference. Some people prefer Android and some others prefer iOS which is totally fine. I have never used iPhones or any Apple devices until this year, so this is like my first time ever. Even though it has only been a few months, I feel like I’m starting to prefer the overall look and simplicity of iOS/macOS over Android/Windows. I don’t really see myself going back to Android/Windows any sooner.
