Does anybody know if the 10 core gpu will have any benefit in supporting an external monitor, over the 8 core gpu?
The 8 core GPU has no problem handling any monitor up to the 6K XDR and displaying the screen images. The only use of those extra GPUs is if your software is using them to generate 3D models or do image/video filtering calculations. Games do both so that might be a use case.

I have been very critical of m2, I needed to come out of the closet with this post.

Heck. Yeah.
Ever since you had returned the M2 air and bought a 14" Pro, almost every post I see from you was slandering the M2 Air. Not worth the price, speakers are terrible, weights not a big deal, get the 14" its only 200 bucks more, terrible value, etc.

I applaud that you at least are telling the community that you ended up back on the M2.
Still, you beat down the M2 as if it owed you money lol.

I have a confession... and I wonder if I get the psycho Mac user of the year award...

keep in mind with all of this I already had a 16" max.

  1. so my portable was a base m1 air before all the began...sold it and got the m2 512gb and 8gb ram..
  2. m2 had faulty speakers and it felt too hot - so I returned it.
  3. not happy with my first m2 experience, then got a refurb m1 decked out with specs... 16gb 1tb
  4. but then I got stoned and went to Best Buy and got a 14" mbp... (I wanted a next gen experience for my portable)
  5. which was followed by me returning the refurb m1 air...
  6. then after a week with the 14" mbp it felt like a tank and begged the question why do I have this if I already have 16"...
  7. was going to re-order the m1 air refurb - but now they are out! LOL
  8. finally came full circle and got a m2 air 16gb 1tb. speakers are working fine. it's super cool for normal tasks. promising my self I stop this madness.

anyone else crazy? I feel like I need to go to apple rehab or something. haha

I would say find a hobby, get outside, live life, and quit trying to test-drive every version of the same product just for the sake of revocable pleasure.

It’s what I’ve had to tell myself in the past when I was in your shoes. And I’m someone who has made a return in this M2 Air cycle - I bought a base model but exchanged that for a 10/16/1TB model when one became available at the nearest store.

Cranky McCrankster over here…. Just finding something to complain about?
I have probably purchased a couple hundred grand in apple products the past 20 years, don’t worry - I didn’t break anything.
You probably shouldn’t roast yourself openly on a public forum but then get disgruntled when someone expresses reasonable discontent.

Good points

Besides the last one, lol
2 returns will not break apple product pricing lmao!

I think the beat down was part of my grieving process of finally letting go the Jonny Ive Era at apple... lol

I had the 2020 M1 Pro with 8/256 and I now have the m2 air 16/256 because I like yourself do not really need more space. Honest answer is I notice zero difference in speed I think the entire thing is overblown unless you’re constantly exporting huge projects but people that are doing that likely also need more ssd space to begin with. Just upgrade the ram as I shocked myself when I finally opened activity monitor on my pro and was constantly using 3gb of swap so I did get 16 this time.
I wanted to come back to your post and say thanks again. After long internal bickering about which colour I actually wanted, I have a silver 16/256 on order with edu discount and the gift card promo (£120 in the UK).

My usage case for this machine will not justfy the £200 premium for the 512 upgrade (Even with speed improvements), but I was being swerved down this route by the reports and have saved a small fortune. Thanks again!
