I bought my 2019 iMac not too long ago (27 inch $2299 Model), I upgraded the Ram to 40GB as well by myself so it’s a very nice machine however I don’t know if I’ll be selling this fairy new machine to buy the new 2020 iMac yet and whether it’s worth losing money or my recent purchase (I don’t even know what a realistic asking price would be for a 2019 iMac)
Do you guys plan on upgrading your iMac?

Hi,

I haven't logged onto these forums in years. I have a 2015 27" mac and was going to ask if this was a good time to upgrade. But I'm not looking to sell. I want to keep the 2015 one and use it as a second screen.

Is this a good time to buy a new mac?
Does anyone recommend any particular thunderbolt cable to connect the two macs?

Thank you.

I think so. I recently sold my iMac Pro, and my current iMac is late 2015. And it's great but all my new accessories are USB-C type connections, and I just feel like being up to date (iMac Pro was nice for that).

Having just picked up an iPad Pro this week, when I saw that the new iMac might take cues from the iPP I immediately started organizing (in my head) the transfer of all my data and drives to prepare to give this away and get something new 🤣

what do you mean "give this away"?

Bought my 27" a month ago and upgraded on RAM and SSD. Keeping it! The bezel's? sure they are outdated, but I don't notice them once I work on this incredible machine. I love the design and it has enough horsepower for the years to come. FaceTime camera is bad? I don't care if my coworkers can see me full HD. Too old for that :D

There is no easy way to use the 2105 as a second screen. Target Display Mode does not work for Retina iMacs. The 2014 non-Retina model is the last iMac which can be used as a second screen. And even where TDM is supposed to work, people are having problems.

That's unfortunate.

Can 2x newer models be used as a second screen?
(Are all newer models "retina" and it just doesn't work anymore with 2015+?)

I had my late 2014 iMac since February of 2015, bought it for 2500. I am looking to keep my machine as well. Despite 2020 being mad lame this is probably the best year in tech in a long time. I wonder if iMac Pro's are going to be cheaper because of this.

I've been waiting for what feels like forever to buy an iMac, waiting for WWDC to come. The 2019 in my sig is a work machine, and my home machine was the 2010 which has died. I'm currently using a 24" 2007 iMac as my main machine, and it is quite bad. Can't come soon enough...

iMac prices are crazy. I got a 2017 4K 560x 4GB/1TB Fusion/8GB RAM for $650 in December, the seller said he couldn't get a higher offer. Now they're going for $1000-$1200. If the 2017-2019 iMac isn't your main computer right now it looks like a good time to sell. So excited at the prospect of new models.

What would be considered a good price to get for the 2299$ 2019 iMac 27 inches with 40GB Ram?

Given that it seems that the transition to ARM will be announced at WWDC along with a new iMac, is anyone else worried about upgrading to the (assume) intel based new design iMac and will hold out for the ARM based model in a few years ?

I have a 27" 2017 imac, but I worry that upgrading to a new 2020 imac doesn't make sense given the chipset will change in a few years.

Well, considering it hasn't been announced? No. And even when it is, my current iMac 5K is meeting all my needs quite nicely.

yup! got 2019 imac last year, but would love to see a newer display design.
You’re willing to take the loss on the sale of the 2019? How much can we even get for a 27 inch 2019 iMac?

Sure, i had my previous imac for 10 years so but would upradge to the newer model if the display changes

i got the 27inch imac 2019, i reckon you will get around 2/3's of the orignal price maybe a little less.

A redesigned iMac with some new components will predictably have the year-over-year improvements. I don't get the sense that you're at the limits of the 2019 iMac's performance, so I don't think there's much of a utility argument to be made.

I think the underlying question is can you live with the old design when the new hotness comes out. I get that. I'm persuaded by that too. Tough call. Not knowing how well you bought the 2019 iMac, my off the wall guess is you could lose $1,000 in a spec-for-spec, used-to-new transition if you do it at launch - there probably won't be much discounting for awhile. $1,000 impacts different people differently.

If I were in your shoes, since you just made this investment I'd press pause. Let it unfold and let it marinate. See how good the reviews come in and monitor the potential first year defects. You can always pull the trigger on it later.

Can someone explain this - I was curious what my 2019 iMac might fetch so I entered my serial number on the apple.ca site which led me to this link: https://phobio.com/tradein/apple-ca/

However, the outcome lists my iMac as an i9 256GB model when in fact I have an i5 512GB

What gives?

I have a Late-2014 iMac (original retina 5K) at work and a Late-2015 model iMac at home. The one at work is due for a replacement and I plan on getting the 2020 model for myself too. The current thicker bezel design doesn't bother me at all. Let's hope there will still be some bezels around it.

Well for the i9 model they listed $1,550 Canadian - half of what I paid for my i5 model. I would definitely sell it privately if that's all they're offering.
Yikes that is absolutely disgusting for them to offer such prices. That’s essentially them scamming the seller. Much better to sell privately without a doubt
I have the 2019 27 inch 2299$ model, not sure how much they offer for trade in value

Probably, especially if they redesign it. I am still rocking a (high end) 2011 27" iMac. Its been mostly reliable (aside from the GPU and a screen replacement or two) but I am so ready for an upgrade.
