Looking at my 16GB head-on, blacks definitely get shimmery in dark scenes.

But also, looking at it head-on, I tend to see a lot of myself, reflections off my shirt, the room behind me, etc.

Is part of this a design issue - that is, are you intended to view slightly at an angle to eliminate any "mirror" effect off the glass?

on my touch, if you watch videos at a slight angle, they do look better. (brighter)

While viewing the ipod at an angle yields better results, it is annoying to do so. And what if you want friends to watch off the same screen? It would be an embarrassment to show them what something so expensive looks like. I reallly hope apple fixes this. I'm not sure if returning the product and replacing mine will even solve the problem. :(
