Mac Pro 5,1 running Mojave. Has been running solid for years. Now I'm getting a repeat pop up dialog box "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" Even after shutting down and restarting it keeps coming up, which interrupts all inputs on the computer, over and over again.

It also won't sleep now as the popup dialog just randomly comes up, which wakes the computer up.

Note, this can continue even during the login window, so that it makes it difficult to login as the keyboard input is interrupted by this dialog in the background I assume.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this and how I might fix it?

Thanks

Start your diagnose checking the BR2032 RTC battery voltage, if the battery is below 3.0V, the clock starts to fail which causes sleep issues, if it's below 2,7V the RTC counters become stuck and the Mac Pro behaves crazily.

I see from your other posts that I should use a BR2032 battery and not the more common CR2032. Do you think it would be ok to use a CR2032 in the interim, to see if that solves the problem and the BR2032 is on order? Also, is there any way to check the battery voltage remotely, or do I need to take it out and use a multimeter?

Thanks

tsialex told me not to long ago that you can.

I have the same problem but found a way how to - at least partially - mitigate it.

When this request pops up I unplug the power cable from the monitor power adapter and reconnect it.
That makes this request inactive. And I can freely navigate through the OS again.

After some time I can cancel the request and it does not come back until I let the computer cool down overnight.

Are you all sure that this is a battery related issue?
