Originally I started with the iPhone 8 plus from new as I wanted to 'spring clean' but quickly realised the only way I could bring all my apple watch data over over was to restore from iTunes backup. I formatted and started again this time from backup.

Can you backup from iOS 10.3 iPhone 7 plus backup to the iphone 8 plus with iOS 11? Or did they stop that now? I've always had older backups and I restore it into the new phone with the new iOS and I never have issues.
I restored from back up from 7 Plus that was on 10.3.3 and went pretty smooth on my iPhone 8 Plus. But I guess it depends on what previous iOS you were on.

I had 10.3.3 on my 7 plus trying to restore from that to the 8 plus

Can you do an iTunes restore on a different computer or do you have to restore it from the same computer you backed up?

Correct me if I'm wrong, there's 2 types of backup. One is iCloud and 2nd is iTunes backup which is local computer right? iTunes meaning you have to use the same computer where the back up was performed?

Why is the Apple agent forcing me to do a restore at the local store when I clearly told him I did an iTunes backup and I don't have an I cloud backup. He said all I need to do is login to the store iTunes and I should be able to restore at the store??? Huh is itunes backup a server backup then?

Correct there are 2 types of back up. iCloud and iTunes. Apple agent clearly doesn't seem to know. iTunes backup is local and not on server. iCloud back up is.

That's what I told him and he was saying that iTunes backup is backup that I can retrieve at any computer? Like wtf.

Restarted fresh. I typically start as a fresh new phone every 3-4 years, just to clean up the junk I don't use and to delete the apps that are no longer compatible. Lots of apps are no longer functioning in iOS 11 that worked in prior versions, so I felt like this was a good year to take the time to set it up brand new. It'll pay off in a few weeks once everything is set up as it was. With iCloud integration, I'm not losing any pictures or anything so it's not a big deal.

Before the iPhone 7 I always restored my new iPhones from a backup, but I have learned from that 'mistake'. I set up my iPhone 8 Plus as new, to ensure the best experience. It was a painful process to get everything back on it, such as the most needed apps and settings, but I got it done. And I'm happy I did it that way. Because the thing is, every time I restored my new iPhone from a backup, battery life was... just enough actually. I don't know why, but it never lived up to Apple's promises on that one.

Of course I have yet to find out how my iPhone 8 Plus will do, but I'll more than happy if it lasts a full day. And considering it's got a bigger battery, that should not be too much of an issue I think.
