    Hi,

    2009 Mac Pro.

I needed a raid for backups, speed was not essential
so I opted for the Areca 5040 with eSata.

I can get it to work fine when doing independent raids,
but if I try to build a volume array, it all goes to *****.

Volumes come up & go, it's a nightmare.

I'm using two Sata/USB pci controlers and the Areca is telling
    me this :

    "SATA(CH0):Drv#0~7 eSATA Port
    Drv#8~15 USB3.0/1394 Port
Port Multiplier Supported Host SATA Port Is Needed To
    Recognize Drv#1~7 and Drv#9~15

    USB :USBiA(CH1) Drv#0~7 as LUN#0~7 (must start from 0)
    iSCSI/AoE : USBiA Drv#8~15 as TargNode#8~15"

any help to solve this would be great.

    tks

    Update

Well things are clearing up :

the PCI card that I'm using for sata (CallDigits FASTA-6GU3 Pro) will assign the port multiplier support to the first device that calls for it. Following arrays plugged in get zilch...

This weekend will be the perfect time to stop the works & start moving cables along to see if I can get this array to work as planned.

I have a Areca 5040 and a CallDigits FASTA-6GU3 Pro, too. All working together without problems. 5 harddrives + 1 spare in RAID 5
