Arghhhh! 32GB is not enough!!!!

I find it very interesting how the iPad is used by different people and everyone is right on the way it is used. To the person with so many pictures, I do understand and would suggest that you do one or two things, A trade up to the 64 gig model and or carry the largest 32 gig SD card for your pictures. No matter what you do it appears you have quite a voracious appetite for HD space, good luck in your endeavors.
Okay, after having a bit of a think about this can I suggest a quick test:
Create a folder on Aperture, stick a nice round number of pictures in there (let's say 100) and sync it up to your iPad. That'll give a rough figure for how much space each picture is taking up (especially if you check how much you think it should be through the file sizes on your Mac as well). That gives a starting point to figure out if iTunes is simply dumping uncompressed files onto your iPad and running out of space or if something stranger is going on (like it trying to put both the preview image AND RAW file on there).
I've still got the sneaky feeling that this is going to turn out to be your preview images taking up more room than you suspect (not sure HOW mind...). One other suggestion, instead of syncing your entire collection at once import individual collections in batches so that you can see if anything in particular is having a horrible impact on your space.

What about ORB, VLC remote, et. al, so you could have access to them through the 3G, but not have to have them stored locally?
Its call Data management, Do you really need to have all those things with you? Dunno but for me part of the fun is picking the good pics i want to show off and creating Albums that i upload to my ipad/iphone.
I do the same with Music i do not need my 17GB of music with me. I make playlist and mixes that i sync over. I also sync over all recently purchased.....

And it's because of things like this that I won't even entertain the idea of owning an iPad until AT LEAST 128GB capacity is available.

Well will say that I am happy with my choice of the iPad 3G 64gb as of now. Have not found my iLife 09 install disk so sort of stuck right now with some RAW images on the iPad -but can see my using the iPad as my photo album for tons of my images.
As some have said before to me I could prune the audio library... but testing out the iPad as a replacement to my iPhone..... But this represents the core of the music I want to be able to listen on demand. I have the 60GB iPod (MA147LL) and have not seen away for BT to work with it.
Video can be cut down as well from the limited testing of the Camera Connector to upload videos to the Photo App that seems to work without the nice interface from the Video App. Importing videos into the photo app requires a list of the files by date as far as I can see. Yet as I watch them in my travels - I can delete them from the Video App and it seems from the Photo App. But also looking at the iPad as a travel replacement to my MBP so loaded like 7 videos that I might want for a core trip.
I am maybe most surprised by the Apps... don't think I have over done it there. LOL Yes some are to show off like Sky Walk, Elements, Alice and a few others. As to iBooks I have yet to begin. LOL
In the the iPad will sort of future proof me when iPhone OS 4.0 comes out with 64GB I hope.

1 - why would you put 12,000 photos on an iPad?

Most people who are already using more than 15gb or so are loading stuff they will rarely if ever use on their iPads out of habit - for example, their whole music collections when they already have an iPod for their music.

Just finished the initial sync of my 32GB iPad and got a message that my photos haven't been sync'd as there isn't enough room o the iPad
I have ~12,000 photos and I sync my Aperture library. On my 32GB iPhone my photos only take up 7.6GB and there is 16GB free. I realize that photos will be optimized to a larger size on the iPad due to the larger screen size but even so.

I love aperture. What I do is load everything into Aperture projects, but I do not sync the entire photo library to my devices. That is the last thing that I would want to do. Besides being huge... it would be incredibly boring.
Instead, I use Aperture to its fullest and create stacks, ratings etc... then create albums for specific projects with a subset of my shots. For example, if I go to the beach condo once/month, and have 2000 beach condo pictures... I distill them down to the top 50 pics, and put them in an Aperture album. It takes almost no incremental space to do so, and I end up with collection of great albums that "tell a story" , and it is orders of magnitude better than the entire unorganized mess.

16 GB has been plenty for me...... I've had mine since launch day, and it's just a little over half full.

Getting a 64gb was a last minute decision out of desperation as my 16gb preorder was not getting fulfilled, and I was at the Apple store and they said they had some 64gb in the back. At first I wasn't sure it was a good move, but after scanning some of my textbooks into PDF files (a 1400 page text with lots of pictures can be 600+ mb) I was very happy with 64gb of storage.
What is - so you could put 12,000 pictures on your iPad?
If each picture averages 2MB, 12,000 pictures will be 24 gigabytes.
If you have some particular reason to need to carry 12,000 pictures on your iPad, then sure, get the 64gb version. If you don't, you can still feel free to load them all up to prove that you need the most expensive version of the gadget.
