I was debating on a 15 or 17 and picked up a 17. My biggest complaint is the small text size. Other than that the 17 and 15 are almost identical. The 17 is so thin unless you put it side by side with a 15 you dont notice the size difference.

Get the 17 and pick up an macbook air or 13 inch pro for travel. I got the 17 as a desktop replacement. However I can see many traveling with one.

Tim,

I agree.

For anyone looking at buying the 17" over the 15" and
being concerned by its size -- don't be.

I owned a 15" MBP and replaced it a few weeks ago
with the 17"

The increase in size and weight is negligible.

This is not your father's 17" laptop. Mac has greatly
streamlined the size and curtailed the weight. The 17"
is only approx. 1 inch bigger and 1 lb. heavier.

I have the MBP 17" in a shoulder bag and carry it
to work every day. I don't really notice the extra
weight or bulk.

The only concern one should have is airplane use.
I don't think there will be as much a problem with
available seat room while using the laptop than the
room available in storing under the seat. I was able
to just squeeze my 15" MBP in its case under the
seat in front of me. Something tells me that my
17" and its case will need to go in the overhead.

Finally, I will say this...

I have been an active supporter of glossy screens.
I loved my 15" glossy screen. On the 17" the reflection
is significantly more noticeable. However, I pretty
much have gotten used to it and would still pick glossy
over matte. However, I would not blame anyone
with an ounce of concern to pay the extra $50 for the
matte display.
