Sure i'm not the only one thinking about this, but an ipad pro running macos + a magic keybd would be my ideal device. realize we need the os to be released first, but anyone thinking about what it would take to make that a reality? i have new mac money burning a hole in my pocket...

That’s great you’re going to have an awesome time getting another Apple product ?

In the meantime I would love an iPad with MacOS I just think that would be a whole different ball game for Apple. They would have to completely change the role of both Macs and iPads to be an actual product in development. It’s not that easy and it takes quite a time.

Either we agree for more at the moment or we can simply say why not enjoy our current field of Macs and iPads for both giving MacOS and iPadOS at each different uses

I still dont believe Apple‘s long term strategy is developing a MacBook Pro line that has almost 90% of similarity compared to iPad Pro sans performance difference.
Time will tell.

No, I don’t think Apple will make a Surface style computer. They had a decade to do it, they didn’t.
The iPad was the Steve Jobs idea of the computer in the future. They’re not going to throw macOS in there.

For the sake of product differentiation and security practices, I seriously doubt Apple will do this. If you want multiple user logins, Terminal, Finder, Disk Utility, etc., I think you'll still have to buy a Mac.

What you can look forward to is running Universal apps on iPad that were originally created for Mac.

If you use Sidecar with your Mac and iPad, you effectively already have MacOS on an iPad. No need to completely rip out iPadOS and replace it with a version of MacOS that would need to be significantly rewritten to take advantage of the touch interface and Apple Pencil.
