First- I would like to thank Tao for allowing me the opportunity to review the cases for these companies for my 12 Pro.

I have received the Armadillotek Vanguard and Schnail iPulse thus far. The schnail Titan will be here by tomorrow.

For those that have followed my posts & reviews, I am quite familiar with Armadillotek from the 11PM case. While I enjoyed that case, I did find some shortcomings with it. For one, anyone who knows my preferences with cases, knows I despise branding. Last yers version had the company name down the kickstand, that was a non starter for me. Also, there were some TPU fitment issues.

For the 2020 version from my 12 Pro- the branding is gone 🎉 and the fitment issues are no longer a concern. So right there, we have a stark improvement.

Lets be clear, this is a case in the mold of the OtterBox defender, but for a fraction of the cost. Armadillotek states it can handle repeated drops at 21 feet. While I am not willing to attempt those drops, I will say, I feel very comfortable with this case on that my phone is safe and secure.

Other thoughts-
  • the buttons for such a large case are excellent. Very responsive, and no extra issues activating them.
  • The port cover over the lightening charger is very stiff and firm. It holds in place well, but can be difficult to pull out if you utilize wired charging.
  • Even though its a large case, wireless charging was no issue on different wireless chargers.
  • The case comes with a built in screen protector, which is fine. I do remove them and use with my tempered glass. I am happy to state, the case works with my ESR full screen protector.
While I am not a "large case" guy, this is not so overwhelming that it is unbearable to use or pocket.

For the price this case cannot be beat.

Schnail iPulse-
As you can see from the above pictures, this is a leather folio case.

The leather has a good hand feel, and the case offers a magnetic latch to secure it close. Inside, there are 3 card slots and a pocket, as well as the ability to set the case as a kickstand. Also inside, is what feels like a tau frame to hold the phone securely.

I am not typically a folio case person, but this case offers a lot of options for those that are. Plus, the magnetic closure offers more security than the typical apple offering (which hasn't been released for the 12's yet)

It is currently listed at $29.99 on amazon as linked above, and if a folio is your style, this is a good, pure leather option.

Here is the review for the Schnail Titan case:

It is very similar to the Armadillotek Vanguard, with a few alterations

The kickstand functions differently. On the titan, the kickstand bends in middle (as shown in the picture above) while the armadillotek is one straight piece.

On the schnail, there is branding on the kickstand, while that is now missing from the Armadillotek.

Both have port covers over the lightening port. The Schnail one is much easier to use, but also is not flimsy if that makes sense. Neither has a cover over the ringer switch (thankfully)

As you can see from the pic above, the size and grip on the sides are quite comparable.

If you need a heavy duty case, that doesnt come with the OtterBox price tag, both of these fit the bill. Me personally, I like the Armadillotek better, but you cant go wrong with either.
