DELANO, Calif.— A California man attending a cockfight has died after being stabbed in the leg by a bird that had a knife attached to its own limb.

The Kern County coroner says 35-year-old Jose Luis Ochoa was declared dead at a hospital about two hours after he suffered the injury in neighboring Tulare County on Jan. 30.

An autopsy concluded Ochoa died of an accidental "sharp force injury" to his right calf.

Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt says it's unclear if a delay in seeking medical attention contributed to Ochoa's death. Tulare officials are investigating, and no arrests were made at the cockfight.

I'd say this is deserving of a Darwin Award

In this case, he got what he deserved.

Next in line: Michael Vick.

As sinister as it sounds, I'd almost agree with you.

You can teach a man not to run with scissors.
You can teach a man to eat a chicken.
But you cannot teach the man's chicken not to run with scissors.

So he got pricked by a cock? This will be hard on his family; I hope they have the tools to deal with it. It's never easy when you lose a family member.

I would like to think you'd be brought to justice for your crime – but more likely you'd just get off with a poultry fine when you go up before the beak.
He would get of easily. That rooster had it coming.

My thoughts exactly, I could see him dying from infection, but not in 2 hours.... There must be more to this.

Probably severed the main artery in the calf and he bled out over 2 hours. If your femoral artery gets cut you could bleed out in minutes (ever see Black Hawk Down?). The arteries below the kneecap carry less volume so 2 hours sounds plausible.
