Are there ways to tweak the Arrange By rules? I would like to arrange a folder by name, but I don't want all of the files/folders that start with "The" to be listed under "T." Rather I would like files like "The Dark Knight" to list under "D" and "The Godfather" to list under "G." Is there any way for the Mac OS to do this, or do I have to alphabetize it manually?

There's no way for native Mac OS X to do that. You could rename those files with "The" in front so it's in the back, such as "Dark Knight, The". For mass changes to file names, I use Name Mangler and I've heard good things about NameChanger.
