Arrange Folder Contents by type?

Is it possible to arrange the contents of my folders either by type or name?

It's possible with the desktop, but not folders?

Of course! It's the "Kind" column.

It's possible with other folders, and I believe each folder can be set to sort differently.

I don't know of any way to sort files on the desktop. Doesn't mean it's not possible, though.
