this is just another case of internet solipsism

of COURSE they're a steal for people making their entire professional salaries off them – you drop 4k on it and make that back in 10 days, then spend 4 years reaping profits

and of COURSE they seem expensive to the budget shopper who cares about the componentry/value ratio over all else

that's why other companies exist. if you just want to pay the least amount for the most cores and ram, and use an nvidia gpu, by all means save a couple Gs on something windows

if you need to look cool in the meetings and not have the thing make noise or heat in your office, you want extremely good colour representation on the go, and you're spending all day in Adobe CC and FCPX, bingo bango the MBPs are like an impossible alien device sent back from the future by the singularity and you would literally pay 15k for it if you really had to

it's not an exaggeration – for many people, this is the single most important and profit-accelerating device they own by an enormous margin

more important than a car, a phone, a spare room in the apartment – more important than any other material asset

So do all the people using high-end windows laptops for their work, there nothing special about apple here

and of COURSE they seem expensive to the budget shopper who cares about the componentry/value ratio over all else

No, they seem expensive to everyone since on the windows side you always get a lot more for your $$$, from budget to high-end laptops like Dell XPS/ Surface Book.

not have the thing make noise or heat in your office
o_O oh yeah, which a core i9 inside that Apple didn't even bother to test and that thermal throttles all the time. Well done, Apple.
Noise - sure, instead of slowly increasing ventilation power Apple designs its laptops to heat up quietly and then roar like a helicopter 10 minutes later due to inefficient cooling.

you're spending all day in Adobe CC
Sorry to disappoint you, but Adobe is MUCH BETTER on windows since it's primarily designed for it.

I'd just like to see some US or EU CNC machining company to quote a job for machining main body for the Mac. Who ever is comparing CNC machined housing to an injection moulded housing is not really comparing apples to apples...

Beside the CNC machining, I'd like to note that I would be willing to pay top EU price for the new MBP, but only if it would be perfect. From what I read on this forum, these laptops are far from reliable. :(

@jackoatmon

Couldn’t have said it better than @Pangalactic - especially how crap Adobe is on macOS vs Windows.

Perhaps you want to argue that FCP/Adobe should cost £15,000, since they are the true profit makers - macOS is nothing without the apps right? I mean it’s just an OS, you realise that right?

Apple still uses parts made from computer companies. Ifixit does a yearly tear down where they identify where each part comes from. The only thing proprietary are the battery and case. Everything else is made by other computer companies.

The main point of my post is that Apple has been gradually increasing prices rather than maintaining a steady price like all other computer companies. The price increase hasn’t been due to Apple innovating, but rather Apple reporting performance gains due to things like Intel processor improvements.

Apple hasn’t innovated in years in regards to the MacBook Pro line.
Stop ever buying an Apple product. Speak with your wallet because a complaint on MacRumors is ... a complaint on MacRumors.

Milk has gone up in price, still comes from a cow, just a newer cow.
Leather has gone up, still come from that cow.
Eggs have increased.
Campbell's Soup increased.
Vehicle pricing increased.
House pricing increased.
Airline tickets increased.
Headphones prices increased.
Postage Stamp increased.
Socks and underwear prices increased.
Internet pricing increased.
Cell phone plans pricing increased.
Electricity pricing increased.
Taxes have increased.

Out of all of these Apple has ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS been very expensive compared to practically every other alternative on the market.

The first wooden Apple computer in 1976 cost more than computers today, Forty-Two years later.

I will guess that Apple has been overpricing products longer than most people on this forum have been alive. So, if you are younger than 40, you have lived in a world where Apple has been an expensive product.
Just more so these days, people are still buying it and then keeping it and then getting flustered after the fact.

You know in 14 days if a product is not good for you.
Return it, get your money back and pay for something else.

Example: Someone pays $2,000 for a laptop, finds out they don't like it. Decides to return it but also decides that the store 30 minutes away is too far to drive. If you don't make $2,000 an hour, then it isn't a waste of time.

No, they're wildly underpriced. For the enterprise / professional buyer they're a steal of a deal. Most people who own these things would be very happy to pay another couple thousand on top of that for even slicker looking design, quieter cooler performance and whatnot.

If you want just raw specs Apple's definitely not the right company for you.

Are you out of your mind ?? Have you ever bought anything with your own money ever?

It’s phenomenal how many people here claim to be professionals, but when this subject comes up there are so few around that have a basic understanding of economics. Apple sets the prices as high as they believe they can. It’s about as simple as that.

Exactly. If we don’t like it, we should simply stop buying them.

Unfortunately, I can’t find a non-Apple machine that will do what I want to do or run the software I want to run. Thus, I continue to pay what they demand. Apple is charging what the market will bear.
