This got me to wondering why we say it differently. Turns out the American Chemical Society decided to go back to the older aloominum pronunciation just because we can I guess. Kinda like the metric system I suppose...us darn Americans being a pain in the a just for the heck of it.
One thing I found odd when I visited the states from the uk was that you guys have smaller pints of beer. I thought my eyes were deceiving me until I looked it up and found my pint was actually not the same size.
