Asking for password when launching Mac App store app

Hi, I have purchased apps from the mac app store and was just asked for my password when launching the app, not through updates and didn't even have the app store open. Just wanted to ask if this was usual?

If apps are asking password for the first time they are launched that is normal. If they are asking it every time something is wrong.

It should not be happening all the time, but I think something was up with the App Store yesterday. I had two apps ask me to authenticate with the App Store yesterday then have not seen it since.
