Assigning Ringtones to Groups?

Is there an easier way to assign ringtones to groups? The only way I can think of doing this is to go into every single contact in that group and give them the same ringtone....that'll take forever! Help please 😱

Have 1000+ contacts, would be nice to assign group ringtones office / clients / family as well as individual ones for specific people.

Any ideas, other than 1-by-1? (tried that one day on long journey and mobileme sync re-set the few hundred ones I had done, before giving up)
