From the AP's guide to trying on and ordering an Apple Watch:

ORDERING ONLINE

If you know the specific configuration you want, you're best off ordering it online, starting at 12:01 a.m. PDT Friday (3:01 a.m. EDT). They will start to ship on April 24. Popular models might not be available right away if you're not among the first to order. Your watch will get shipped to you. There won't be an in-store pick-up option.

The bolding is mine. This news, if true, is unfortunate, because the common belief here on the forums (at least from what I saw) was that we would be able to order online and pick up in store.

Not surprised ... supplies are hella limited.

I suspect if in store pick up is not available it's entirely down to supply issues and not enough stock. If that's the case they may well start offering in store pick ups once things die down and go back to normal. Once they are able to get regular supply to the stores they will be able to offer this option.

I am thinking maybe Apple is finally embarrassed by news reports showing lines of people who CLEARLY are not buying it for themselves. They are trying to class this up some.

Of course, in a month or two they will be available to buy in store.

If that's the case, I hope they at least have an express shipping option (like with the iPhone) so that it'll show up before 10am -- or maybe at least offer UPS so you can pickup before delivery attempt.

There won't be an in-store pick-up option.

Its just bad phrasing. Their won't be an option to just walk in and purchase the Apple Watch, but per Apple.com you can reserve to pick up the Apple Watch in store.

Hope you're right. We'll see. In the AP report, the sentence before the one you quoted says "Your watch will get shipped to you." Then they say the line about no in-store pick-up.

The fact those two sentences are back to back seems to indicate you won't be able to do as that image says. Hope I'm wrong.

I would trust Apple's own website before I trust AP as they are not Apple.

I would like the pickup option as well. My iPhone 6+ didn't show up until after 6PM. I spent the whole day waiting for it since no one else was to be home that day.

I didn't think to use hold for pickup from UPS. I guess I'll do that if I can't puck it up.
