Dropped my 12 pro this morning face down on the driveway. Screen protector and leather case took most of the damage but it did get chipped on the outside corner of the frame and screen. Have a replacement coming from the claim I filed. (yes the damage is minor and phone works fine but trade in this fall will be an issue if I don't take care of it and I'm meticulous)
Here is my question and only looking for opinions cause it is so early. Know demand is super high since they are cutting mini production and supply is limited. Think the phone I am getting as a replacement will be a refurb this soon or a new phone? It is a 12 pro 256gb in blue.
Long shot but until it gets here I am hoping it is a new phone.
Thanks all. Happy Saturday!

From Asurion? Of *course* it will be a refurb. Probably done with non-OEM parts. How could it be anything else?

If you're lucky they wiped it with a dirty rag before sending it to you.

Just out of curiosity; are you getting it replaced because it was insured or are you doing it another way?

I am getting it replaced cause I do not want a damaged phone. It will need to be before I trade it in for my yearly upgrade in the fall. It is insured through Verizon with Asurion. No other way I know of for me to get it replaced/fixed.

I’d rather keep the phone you have than get an asurion replacement.. They use 3rd party parts to refurbish they’re phones.. Friend of mine had to go through 3 different phones before he got one that was acceptable

In the future, stick with AppleCare if at all possible. Insurance through the carriers is garbage due to them using Assurian and business' like them.

Never used or had AppleCare. Used Asurion in the past and had no specific issues but it was years ago at this point. Feeling very disheartened but appreciate the honesty and what to look out for. Guess I am crossing fingers it will be a new phone since there are issues with supply still but it has been a few months for others to swap theirs in for issues and them to be fixed.

Hopefully, you will be one of the exceptions and end up with a positive result. Given demand, you may get lucky.

Alright everyone. UPS just dropped off the replacement phone. It is sealed just like it was when I got it new from Verizon. In the apple box in their plastic wrap. There is not a refurb stamp on the back of it. What else should I look for? By all accounts it seems new in the box to me.

Is it a plain white box or the same retail box you had before? In Settings > General > About > what letter does the model number start with?

I just checked and it is an "M". Guess I did get lucky and they did not have any refurbs of this particular phone. Trying to set it all up now and with being in beta its a PIA.

Thank you everyone!
