That's pretty cool, but I find Safari Stand's approach to thumbnails much better, because you can see them while you browse.

apparently longhorn's stealing that

so what can we steal?
  • crashing?
  • blue screen of death?
  • patch after patch without the thought of a redesign?
I think we have these already :p since the Tiger upgrade.
My PowerBook constantly crash since I upgraded it to Tiger. Installing 10.4.3 doesn't solve the problem.

You should probably have it looked at then. My Powerbook hasn't crashed a single time since Tiger's release. I don't think that is an OS X problem

You mean favicons? That started with IE 3...
Yes, if I remember correctly IE will display them in your favorites (note the name "favicon") but does not display them next to the url - which is what I like about Safari/Firefox.

Microsoft stole that from OmniWeb

I'm glad somebody mentioned it. OmniWeb did it first, and does it better.

On another note, looking at those screenshots makes me wish there was a vomit emoticon. I don't particularly like XP's look, but Vista is shaping up to be much worse.

"Flip and Flip 3D
Windows Vista provides two entirely new features to manage windows codenamed "Flip" and "Flip 3D". Flip allows you to flip through open windows (by using Alt+Tab) providing a live thumbnail of each window rather than just a generic icon and filename. Live thumbnails make it easier to quickly identify the window you want, particularly when multiple windows of the same kind are open. With Flip 3D,you can use the scroll wheel on your mouse to flip through open windows in a stack, and quickly locate and select the one you want to work with. This feature is even handier when you use it with the new Flip 3D key that manufacturers are adding to many keyboards."
- This is from the Vista Website

Remind You of Anything??
Starting with Ex and ending with Pose?

tfh1013 that also reminds me of something but I just can't but my finger on it, not just ex and pose but look (ing) and glass... I just don't know. Anywho...

the aforementioned omniweb (example)

Expose for Safari tabs would be freaking sweet! Maybe Safari 3.0 will have this :)

Maybe even Safari 2.0.3/4 ;)

That is simply an in-app Exposé, what a pile of steamy stolen crap. I bet their transition is nice and smooth too :p

dude, ever hear of expose? at the click of a single button all windows in an app, or all windows open can be put into cool little thumbnail form!!! its amazing!!!!

I think the tab thumbnails would be too small to be useful. I don't have any problems with the way that Safari's tabs work. As for comments on the Vista look - it is horrible.

Exposé doesn't thumbnail tabs within another app, only the apps themselves. Prime example, open some tabs in Safari and then do the 'show all' Exposé function....you see Safari, not each tab, that is what we are talking about.

Does anything from M$ look 'good'? :p

I agree that the thumbnails for webpages would be too small be useful. It's hard enough trying to take content from apps when you have Exposéd them, but this is even smaller! I can't see them being all that useful, no more-so than a properly titled tab like Safari has. I guess visual is slightly more intuitive than reading text, but damn people, stop be soooo lazy at that point.

Shiira does tab exposé. Its a nice feature, and I hope Apple implement it for Safari.

Looks like they're settling on that hideous colour scheme. Oh well, I guess users will be able to turn it off and switch to different colours or classic style still. shame you won't be able to switch off fully the cartoon-ish graphic icons, the blocky text and the IE integration with everything you want to access on your pc.

There is a good article on that site for 10.4 vs Longhaul though.

... and Fast User Switching. MS didn't invent the concept of many users logged in at once - that's been around forever, but the way they implemented it within the OS with the interface was nice and Apple implemented something very similar shortly after.

AND, it's good to remember that Apple credited Microsoft for the feature. That's something!

They STILL haven't started antialiasing text? It's so much easier on my eyes. Maybe they use Mario Paint to design their interface...
I am running windows on 1280x1024, but lower the resolution and the text doesn't look that great. Since most still run under 1024x768, it looks poor. I guess that is more down to the resolution they are running, but looking at those screenshots, it's improved under Vista, but still not quite at OSX's standard. Again I blame the resolution of the screenshots used.

I will however say that my comments were more of a general comment on Windows than an attack on Vista alone.
