Trying to activate a 12 Pro on AT&T. Bought on the iPhone upgrade program (first time) so they already had my ATT details.
when I press “Next” on the “confirm your phone number“ screen, nothing happens. Nada. Been trying for 20 minutes. I also restarted the whole set up process and same outcome.

anyone else having the same problem?
any workarounds?

Solved:
went for set up manually instead of automatically transfer data.

Got it going finally - Have to keep doing hard reset of new phone until it works. Had the same issue with "set up manually". Just needed to keep cycling until it worked.

Failed 5 times on the device. Gave up and did iTunes activation which worked first try.

Thanks for the thread. Getting the same thing (AT&T). I’ll keep rebooting until it works.

A question and a few observations as I am repeatedly restarting the phones...
  • When it works, how long does it take to respond after hitting Next? I am assuming it should be quicker than the screen timeout so I restart after the screen goes off.
  • The 12 pro restarts much faster than my 11 pro. The old phone must be doing much more on startup.
  • The Apple logo on startup is larger on the 12 pro.

It worked! It’s probably about two seconds from when I hit next to when the page responded with more than making “Activate” or “Activation” or whatever it says at the top disappear.
ultimately WiFi was on on my old phone, while prior attempts with it both on and off all failed.

I had same experience. Once I plugged iphone12 in to Mac and connected through iTunes, I could manually set up phone and restore from iCloud. In process now.

Up to “preparing to transfer”. If I remember correctly, they couldn’t get this to work when I upgraded to the 11pro on launch day last year even with their fancy cables. Fingers crossed they fixed this process.

My wife had the same issue. I turned off her old phone, restarted her 12 Pro, and then activation worked.

I had the same lock up and it wouldn't progress, however, after dropping the wi-fi connection for my old phone as a previous poster recommended it worked like a charm. Maybe it's something in the wi-fi calling?

Same issue with AT&T. I chose manual setup instead of transferring from my old iPhone X (you still will get a chance to choose the automatic option after activation) and it activated.

Now I can't get the data transfer to work, despite both phones being 256 GB (with over 100 GB free on my current phone). Tried three times and it fails. Going to go the iCloud backup route now.

Activated on mine without this issue but had to contacr Verizon to fully activated because I have two lines on my phone which requires manual intervention. But I’m having this problem in the thread on my spouses iPhone that has one line. Tried restarting both devices 5 times. Tried with Wifi on on old phone but turning off after the finish on new iPhone screen appeared. But still no luck, but then tried with wifi before trying to sync the two at all and that time next worked right away. Yay!
