bought an iphone pro 11 at an official At&t store back in 12-1-2019 and traded in an iphone 8 256 plus paid $170 upgrade fee but had an issue with the phone, returned it and the experience at the store was not greatest so I got a refund and the contract canceled and left the store with no phone. Went to bestbuy and purchased another 11pro unlocked purchased on NO contract but put an att sim in it and continued with them..however they still were charging me for the iphone 8 which I do not have possession of, ive called every month since and was told in april 2020 that things were going to be reviewed on my billing and refund the charges for the iphone 8....it's now july 1 2020 and it's still not resolved! anyone else go through this hell????

Way way easy back in the day (mid to late 1990s) I got one of my last AT&T landline bills before I headed back to England. It was something like $400 (huge amount of international calls and I was a damn fool and didn't have a plan set up).

There was an overcharge of something like $10 so I called to get it removed. They apologized and said they'd remove it so I sent them a check for the remainder. (-$390 for those playing at home).

Two days later I get a new copy of the statement where they've zero'd the entire bill!

I called then again and they apologized and said they'd correct it. In the meantime they cashed the check.

About a month later, now back in blighty, I get a check from AT&T for the full amount of the bill. ($400, cr $10).

I called them again and they once again apologized for the mistake and said they'd resend me a final bill and if I could then pay that then we'd be even. In the meantime I needed to cash the check to clear up the accounting mess (or some such baloney).

A few weeks later I get another check, again for the full amount ($400, cr $410) and a statement telling me the account was now closed. And that's the last I ever heard on the matter.

I cashed both checks awalked away feeling extremely happy I hadn't been so stupid as to have set up a calling plan.

I loved AT&T!

I paid my final Uverse bill once before I switched to another provider. I paid it in full. A month later they sent me a $5 check for a credit refund they had on my account. I also received a final bill saying I Still owed $5 Lol

Paid to get rid of them? The rest of us can only dream LOL. Score

This story does not surprise me... I’m sorry you’re going through this. :/ I would contact the corporate office.

ive made multiple calls in a friendly manner to At&t and there is a major disconnect in their customer service dept. , I never get a straight answer why this has not been cleared up...last night I was sent to a manager and on hold for about 20 min only to be told I would get a call back...the way I was told seemed unprofessional to me, like they are playing a game till I get tired of it and no they didnt call me back yet...i even checked my phone to make sure I called the correct number...bizarre , I never complained to them about anything the entire time Ive been a customer before the cingular-att wireless takeover

I had a big problem with trading in to AT&T. Long story short they never “received” my Note 8 that I was trading in for the Note9 and claimed that I sent them an iPhone 6 ? No one in my household owns an iPhone 6 and what AT&T sent me back was some old LG slide up phone from the early 2000s that is from T-Mobile. It was a month of constantly calling them and fighting them in this because they charged me the remaining $500 on my bill making it well over $800! It was a big mess but I got it sorted out. They took the charge off but it took me calling them almost every week. It was so annoying. This is why I will never trade in anymore. I bought my 11 Pro Max outright from Apple. That’s how I’m going to do it from now. Saves me so much trouble and headache

I thought I was the only person with trade in issues. The other day I was thinking about how I never received my $700 in monthly Bill credits for trading in an iPhone X for the 11 Pro Max.

I don’t have any of the documentation from the AT&T store when I went in, but I think I’m going to try and revisit this.

update: called customer service again and got someone who was on the ball...my refund for payments is still in approval stage and he said it looks like it will go through but due to covid hell and some people working from home it may take a couple of more months? geeeze atleast I got more info from him than the previous nightmare cust service agent ...and was allowed to refund 2 months worth of payments off my bill. This has been a blackhole of incompetence from At&t...

He admitted this was supposed to be wrapped up in april and it looked like the corporate store screwing this up is the cause and they are trying to sort out what happened

You could try a BBB complaint. If that doesn’t work you might have to go through small claims court. Make sure to follow the process in the terms of service - you have to dispute any charges in writing within 90 days.

AT&T is a disaster. Check out their own forums.

Everything with and about ATT is a mess. Sadly I couldn’t pretend to be surprised if I tried.

Hope they get it all worked out for you though
I totally agree! That's why I'm a T-Mobile customer now. They are a steaming pile of trash. Even with a %18 discount through my work I refuse to use them.

UPDATE FEB 2021- AT&T STILL HAS NOT RESOLVED THIS ISSUE , I am calling them one last time then depending on what I hear I will be moving to small claims court

I bought an iPhone 12 mini from AT&T. I needed to trade in my iPhone 11 and pay $300. I did and received my iPhone 12 mini. I did not receive the paper work to return my iPhone 11. It turns out, I paid off my daughter's iPhone 10s. If I want to return the iPhone 11 I need to pay an additional $230. I complained and they let me keep the iPhone 11 and iPhone 10s. I am expecting that they will eventually send me a bill for $230. That is how AT&T works.

I have had a terrible time with AT&T as well. In December I upgraded one of my lines to get the iPhone 12 mini. I select the phone I wanted to trade in and paid the amount to trade. I receive my new iPhone 12 and call AT&T to get instructions on how to return the trade in phone. I turns out I paid the wrong phone, because AT&T showed the wrong phone that was assigned to me. I paid off my daughter's and not the phone I wanted to trade in. I argued with them and they eventually let me keep the phone and I did not have to return any phone. They are a mess...

Carriers are a MESS.

I jumped off the carrier train for this stuff a LONG time ago. If I purchase with a carrier (which I don’t) it would be a “clean” purchase. Full price up front. No trades. One charge and nothing for them to screw up.
