AT&T Confirms No-Contract iPhone 3G Sales

The new phones will still be "locked" to AT&T and won't work with any other cellular carrier unless they're modified.

So when the phone is modified it works with another service? wow, really at&t, thanks.

I think this is going to come in very handy when the new iPhone comes out in June and I am going to want to upgrade but still have over a year left on my contract

Is this a new thing? Ive always thought i was able to buy the iphone from ATT without a contract with a high price... Sounds like a marketing thing to me to move sales.
