Even if it was possible to block the app from uploading anything (which I doubt), you are still giving AT&T permission to directly share your CPNI with Hiya according to paragraph 2.8. Access to this information is regulated by federal law (Telecommunications Act of 1996) for good reason.

And how is that any different than being registered on the Do Not Call Registry? I don't foresee a problem with it.

Seriously? The Do Not Call registry is not run by a startup with a vague privacy policy, and it does not contain any of the following information (quoting AT&T's terms): "inbound and outbound phone calls, calling and called numbers, time and duration of calls, and whether you answer or end those calls."

One key word you have missed. AT&T is reserving the right and may give that information away but they not necessarily will. I could really care less if they know how long I'm on the phone, who I am talking to and if I accept or decline a call. 99% of the time I don't talk on the phone and the 1% that I do is for calling businesses/support and things of that nature. I would prefer to stop getting 3+ phone calls a day from scammers.

AT&T is not intentionally going to put their millions of users at risk, or they would be in serious deep water.

That's your prerogative. But not everybody shares your attitude, and people should be aware what they are consenting to when using this service.

By giving AT&T permission to share your CPNI and other information, you are absolving them of that risk.

Then that is every single person's responsibility to read the terms and conditions. No one if making them sign up for this and if they do so without reading up its on them. And it still goes back to my original point. If you do not have the app installed, you are not required to give contact information and sync call history. You have the ability to not allow contacts and you can delete call history directly from the app.

to use, I have to log in, that means I have to create another account, another password
I just want it to work.
Already wasted to much time

I read the headline, and someone said, At&t finally did something good for its customers. Bull !
I installed the app, like an idiot. I've blocked lots of numbers using Apple's feature. They are blocked permanently. However, this new app can't read them in. Wtf ? How inane is that?
Then I see they want to read my contacts in. Now, I have given a criminal organization with ties to every government agency the link to everyone I know. They are happy to share everything - with the NSA and everyone else. I may not get robocalls, but if someone in my contacts does something against the law, or protests (which is likely) I'll probably get a call from some government agency.

I wish I could undo this !!!!

Try go to myAT&T (either via app or website) and remove the feature/service there. I just did it via the app

I'm not in a panic but I did remove the blocked numbers I had to replace the task with this app. I can't even get the app to work yet. I guess worst case I will remove the app and just keep using the call block feature in phone settings. I planned to do that anyhow but wanted to defeat this non-working app.

Edit: Ok, I beat the app now I can use it a while and see if I want to keep or toss. To make mine stop saying I needed to wait for setup I logged into att.com, turned the feature off then went back to the app again. Setup went through. It does not look like it sent my contacts anywhere, just asked for access to them. I can turn that off.

Removing the app is only one part of the picture, that's easy. If it does what it says it will I should have a few less calls... I imagine if they downloaded my contacts that the damage is done. Even if I remove my account, turn off that feature, they aren't going to delete my contacts, ever. Even if they told me they would I couldn't possibly believe them. This is just one more company getting in on figuring out the links from everyone to everyone, then selling us more plastic statues of Jesus to put on the dashboard, and selling the linkages to the NSA, FBI and the local dog-catcher. There is no excuse...

Good for AT&T. Robocalls are increasing every day in my area. I like to think my number is fairly private and yet, I still receive one/two calls a week. More carriers (If they Haven't already) need to congregate and move forward with blocking this garbage.

I know there are free applications to assist in deflecting these calls, but carriers should implement something to throttle robo calls, as ceasing scam calls will likely never be fully successful, as they will find another way to manipulate the caller.

Agreed
Tho to be fair call or ID Spoofing is still a thing and a concern

Sadly you're right tho these robot callers, telemarketers etc etc will ALWAYS Seemingly find a way without care or regard for how
All they see $$$ at ANY Costs

Hey you guys, AT&T actually did something customer friendly for a change!

*waits to see how long before someone realizes this app somehow compromises customer privacy in some major unforeseen way for profit*

Someone's pessimistic
Guess you're also doubting their new video streaming deal with "FullScreen" ( actual name of the service ) FREE Streaming for a year

Anyone know how this works on other phones on same account? Do the app settings affect all phones on the same account, or can they be controlled separately somehow?

They're the parent company of Fullscreen, which is a network that runs a lot of big names on YouTube, so I don't doubt it for a minute. Some of the content that these new media companies are putting out is impressive considering their budgets. It's ATT's way of trying to copy T-Mobile but in a way that promotes their content, just like they did with DIRECTV Now, which I mostly like so far.

The app settings only apply to the phone you're setting up at that moment. This is not activated account wide. I have 5 phones on my account, this feature (for now) is only active on my phone.

Any idea how the app should be installed in other phones? Is there a per-line At&t login I am unaware of?

Same login for each device, the difference is the number that is being setup. AT&T knows which of your phones you are on when you request the app setup. It does the same with other features too like WiFi calling and Numbersync. All done on individual devices but on the shared billing account.

Actually, that did not work. When my SO logged in to the app on her phone, with my standard account login credentials, it did not set up her phone for CP. As it turns out, every phone number on a family plan has its own login credentials. Once we got those figured out, and she logged in to the app using those, it correctly set up her phone.

Old post, sorry.

Did this stop working with iOS 14? I have been using this app with good results until getting my 12 Pro Max, now it seems to not work and in Setting>Phone>SMS/Call Reporting AT&T Call Protect is not listed.

I’ve uninstalled, restarted, set the app up again and still
