at&t early upgrade for iphone, extended contract?

When you get an early upgrade for the iphone, are you forced to sign an extended contract?
 
It would be a 2 year contract from the date of purchase. There would not be an extension to your current contract.
 
They make you sign a NEW 2 year contract. It does not extend off of your previous contract. So you'll be in a 2 year contract from the date you get the early upgrade and not 2 extra years from your current contract end-date.
