I don’t think it’s worth keeping it. At&t has lots of promotions going on. I would change it ASAP to 5G before new iPhones are released and prices hike up. I just made all the changes to my plan today. Total cost is $163 for 3 lines. 2iPhones + Apple Watch.

check out this article.

I was grandfathered into the original AT&T unlimited plan *and* a Microsoft employee discount which didn’t expire, for some reason, when I left Microsoft. For a long time, I thought I could never leave AT&T. Recently, however, I looked around and realized that prices had finally dropped to where I could get a better deal with a new plan.

Comparing plans is not easy, however, because of differences in features, hidden charges, rebates, etc. You really have to dig into the details. One of the things that swung it for me is the fact that the new unlimited plans include a free hotspot, which would have been an expensive add-on previously. I finally decided to go with Verizon’s “Get More” unlimited plan. The monthly charge is only slightly less than what I was paying before, but I now have a free hotspot, I can add on a device for a reasonable charge if I choose to, I get a Disney+ subscription which would otherwise be $7, and since I’m bringing my own phone, I get a $450 rebate.

Take your time and figure out which plan works best for you. Don’t buy the first thing a salesman tries to sell you.

I agree do the research and then take an action.

I just checked the current available plans in AT&T and there really only 3 options, all "unlimited". Price per line depend on the number of lines, but although all 3 plans have 5G, the most expensive tier, the Unlimited Elite is the only one you can stream in HD. What is the point of 5G and unlimited data if you can't even stream in HD in all except their most expensive plan?

They’re offering discounts and promotions and you can customize the data plan based on each line so your bill will most likely be reduced. you don’t have to get the same plan for all lines.

Is the GUP Unlimited data plan exactly what they offer today? I guess my question is mainly about throttling? Will they throttle me the same?

im on the GUP, and I go over 22gb every month. I get the warnings about reduced data speeds, but I haven’t experienced any noticeable throttling. I think the people on the newer unlimited plans have a similar experience.

If that’s the case then I suppose making the switch won’t hurt. I also go over 22 gb and don’t experience any noticeable throttling but I don’t want to leave my GUP plan and bam the issues start.

I’m trying to find info on at&t 5g unlimited plans for one line, but I can’t get to the pricing without selecting a phone first. I read on Tom’s Guide that the Elite plan is $85. Anyone have a link to the details that you’d be willing to share?

Below are the newest plans, all with 5G. You can mix and match lines.

your best bet would be to call at&t and tell them how you want ur plan to be. They can apply discounts and promotions as well. So I wouldn’t go exactly with what the website says.

Thank you!

ugh, I currently pay $72.25 for my GUP with my FAN discount. I don’t need tethering since my employer provides a hotspot. I already have HBO Max through U-verse, and I can stream HD with my GUP. I guess the extra cost will only be for 5G. I live in DFW, but I’ll have to see how 5G is working out for others in the coming months and whether I’d benefit in the near term. My 4G speeds have been quite good.

Right now, AT&T has pretty good rollout of 5G, but it’s no faster than 4G. Verizon’s 5G is fast but very limited. In Dallas, it’s only in downtown, uptown, Old East Dallas, Oak Cliff, and the medical center area. Even in those areas, it varies but block and street. I don’t think there’s any Verizon 5G in Fort Worth at all right now.

Mine is about the same. Will come down to actual 5G coverage and any real speed benefit.

I made the change to Unlimited Elite from the AT&T Unlimited Choice II plan that I was grandfathered in to. First, when did that plan first come out? I don't remember. Second, would AT&T have added 5G to that plan? Was it dumb of me to get rid of that plan?

You can only get 5G from the newest Unlimited plans. They won’t add 5G to the older plans.

ATT will be releasing new plan offers now that the iPhones a week away
Keep checking the offers might change
Remember you will not have 5G with the grandfathered Plan.

That is what I figured. I made the change because I am going to be getting the new 12 Pro Max.

I had that feeling 5G would not be added to the grandfathered plan. Some reps said yes and some said no. That is why I changed so that I am ready for 5G.

The GUP is not part of the new trade in program if we’re going to use that. —See att.com/unlimited for current unlimited plans. Retired unlimited plans may also qualify (excluding prepaid, session-based, and Data Unlimited at $45/mo. plans).

Well I’ve run the numbers and I’ve ended up paying almost $40 more a month and my video on tablets drops down to SD than on my Mobile share plan. Kind of sucks.

don’t think it worth it for me. Two phones two wearables and 3 tablets. They charge double for the tablets than what I was paying and NO FAN discount.

Didn’t read about the SD with tablet add ons. Ridiculous.

Those with GUP, do a comparison on the site with the newer plans. Att has capped the max 4g dl speed at 3mbs. This is complete bs, as lte is and was much faster than that. They don’t have a separate network without the small 5g spectrum blended in, so all they can do is cap your max dl to force you into the new plans. Another shady move from a shady company.
