Hello guys,

yesterday I got a replacement for my iPhone 7 Plus in Germany due to the issues it had.
Now I'm concerned, if it is still the same. Mine was unlocked for international use and it seems like I got an european model. (The back looks dfferent) http://www.wallpapermaiden.com/imag...ck-view-camera-apple-logo-technology-6429.jpg
CE some numbers ! and a trash can.

However, the model number on the back is still the same A1784.

The model number in the iPhone settings changed. It's NN4V2ZD/A now, I don't remember what it was before but it was different.

Do I still have the exactly same network coverage I had with the AT&T one and is it true that the A1784 model does not operate well in China, Japan and some other countries?
It would also mean that my international phone wasn't really international.
From what I have seen, the CDMA iPhones support all networks, GSM phones only GSM?
Why on earth there are different models?

I'm heading to China on Friday. And as it seems with this iPhone I can only get 4G with China Unicom.

Thanks!

Heck no!
You're telling me this unlocked iPhone is not more than a piece of garbage in China and Japan? :(
So it is equal to the AT&T one it seems.
What if I would have replaced it in China? I guess they would have given me the A1784 one as well?
Feeling ripped off now somehow.
Wasted $1K ;)

Maybe you can use the UMTS/GSM networks instead of LTE in China and Japan ?
Look here: http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html

Here is what apple says about the possible frequency bands :

Model A1660*
Model A1661*

FDD-LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30)
TD-LTE (Bands 38, 39, 40, 41)
TD-SCDMA 1900 (F), 2000 (A)
CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1900, 2100 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz)
GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

Model A1778*
Model A1784*

Models A1778 and A1784 do not support CDMA networks, such as those used by Verizon and Sprint.

FDD-LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30)

Why would they replace your phone with a different model, and further a different model that would work for your trip to China specifically? You got a replacement unit just like the one you bought - which was the same for me with my Verizon model in the UK, they had to ship it over rather than give me a model out of local stock.

Unfortunately they haven't gotten down to a single model - hopefully that will be possible in the future

It has the same model number on the back but it looks different.
However, it seems like I need a different iPhone now. :(

The NN4V2ZD/A is the A1784. And you can use it in China with GSM/EDGE band 900 MHz and with UMTS (3G) in the 2100 MHz Band ! LTE there is not possible.
In Japan you can also use it in the 3G 2100 MHz Band - LTE maybe possible - thats depends on the local carrier you use there.

Thanks!

Which carrier would work for me in Japan, SoftBank and docomo?

A person in a different forum said, he was able to get 4G (AT&T iPhone) with China Unicom.
However he got only E with China Mobile.
I had the same experience two years ago with my European Galaxy Note 4 and China Mobile.
The Note 4 refused to work with the Travel-Sim cards available in Japan.

Why you not follow the link I posted above ? There you can see every carrier in the world and what frequencies they use !
You must do a little bit work alone ...

your fon works on any of the 3 major carriers in japan.
and it works in china.
don't worry.
until the iPhone 7, the Germany model was identical to the model sold in Japan.
with the iPhone 7 however there is the NFC chip in the iPhone itself only the model natively sold in Japan.
this is so it can work with the transport and NFC based Suica system. your model doesn't have that chip.
the networks in red below are networks in Japan or China that have been added to some carriers in these two countries to have better coverage in certain environments.
its not an issue.
you will have LTE coverage in Japan and 4G in China.

As far as I know in Germany (live here used to work at Telekom) It’s illegal to sell locked phones here. Every phone is an unlocked one. Same model that you buy on apples website for AT&t. All the markings on the back are required here. In the states they aren’t as long as they are easily accessible in the software. I have the same model phone and was In the states over summer and my Telekom carrier was always on AT&T or t mobile.
