I copy and pasted what was on my upgrade screen as of when I posted. I wonder which text is correct, mine or yours?

"May not be fully functional". It's not defined as it "will not work".

I'm sure iMessage will still work.

"Audio and video streaming, picture and video messaging, select apps and other services, as well as other usage, including sponsored data, will be impacted and may not be fully functional."

I'd link to the upgrade screen, but it's behind a login. You can trust me that I copy and pasted text without editing it.

I think you're missing my point. I was saying that I feel it's fair for the carriers to charge a monthly fee for every active SIM card. If they didn't, I would put a SIM card in every device I have even though I would never need it, but just in case. It's more overhead for the carriers.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't be prevented from moving your SIM card from one device to another whenever you want.

There's a difference between phones and tablets, though. I see your point for a phone that has voice calling and texting. But what about a pure data tablet? So what if people put lots of SIMs in devices? That means data is getting used, and probably more not less, which means $$$ for AT&T. And if the SIM costs AT&T anything, then have a one-time SIM charge of $1 or $5 or something.

I believe you. I was confused when it said $40/month access charge even though initially it said $20. My phone is paid off and I figured I would see a $20 discount on my bill. It's just the lack of explanation when finalizing my plan that worried me.

OK, fine. They used to have different monthly rates for smart-phones vs. feature-phones vs. tablets.
fai
Maybe different rates for devices that have discreet phone numbers vs. data-only devices.

My point is that I think it's fair that each device that's connected should be charged a monthly fee. There's overhead for the carriers to keep track of every connected SIM. What I'm not saying is $15-20/month is a fair rate.

I'm thinking about $2/mo to connect a device to a shared data account would be fair in my mind. Anything more than that, I'd just go and tether to my iPhone.

We are on an older 3GB plan where we pay $40 for the plan and $25 for each device on AT&T Next. So this new plan will save us $10/month.

I called today (611 number) and spoke with a woman abut trying to reduce my bill or see if there is a better plan or data allotment. I was bumped from 4gb (I was previously bumped from 3gb to 4gb for complaining about rollover data) to 6gb for "my current price of $40" I think we are still stuck at $25 for each phone but I might try and see if that can getting adjusted later to a lesser amount.

Elaborate, you might be the first person I know that has gotten 6 GB for $40.

When did you call? I'm guessing you have 2 lines?

Here are the new RETENTION plans that some of you may be interested in, available Monday, August 22nd:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=16707714

My post on Reddit:
http://reddit.com/r/ATT/comments/4yv68g/new_mobile_share_advantage_retention_plans_are/

If the links don't work, it's as follows:

$30/2GB
$40/6GB
$60/12GB
$80/20GB
$90/32GB
$110/50GB
$135/60GB

Additional info:
The line access fee on these plans is $20.
Your FAN discount will still apply to the data portion.
This includes Mexico AND Canada LTE Roaming.

You get to Retentions by calling 611 and when prompted, say "cancel." When the rep comes on then line, explain your situation. **Threatening to cancel isn't required.** You can say that your bill is too high or if you could get more data for what you pay. Be polite and they'll come through for you. Didn't work out? *Try again.*

I have a reliable source on this, so let's hope this is true.

Edit 8/22: These new retention plans are not live yet. Will update when it is!

Do these data plans have the no overage also? In other words let's say I get the 20 gig plan for $80 and I go over am I going to be charged the $15 per gig to get me through the end of the month? Or will my use age be capped? And my speed reduced.

These plans have no overages. I'll let you all know when they come online.

I called around 10am ET
I simply said I looked at my bill and it seemed high and wondered what deals or discounts they may have. She mentioned I have the 4gb plan and I tend to use 3.something per month. I asked if any discounts on data or per line charge.
Nope the $25 and $40 are standard (I am on my last contract month) she mentioned next month my phone drops to $25. I said how I saw some new plans and they seem to be a higher rate so I'm just confused on it all. And wondering if I read it right or if she can do something. Then she said she can bump me to 6gb for the same price i pay now: $40.

No other discounts (well I have a FAN)
And it started today. Mine says 3gb+3GB

That's the Mobile Share Value plan, not the Mobile Share Advantage

If you switch plans mid-month, what happens to accrued data use? Does it count towards your new plan (i.e., if you used 2GB in first week, are you 2GB into your allowance on the new plan)? Or does the use to that point get wiped out, and you have the full amount of the plan for the remainder of the month? (In which case, why not wait to switch until the end of the billing cycle, unless you've gone over)?

I'd rather pay for overages than suffer extremely slow DIALUP speed.

I totally understand this, but also get that a lot of people would prefer to be throttled.

What I don't understand is why AT&T doesn't provide the option? It's a great upsale opportunity. E.g., anyone who hits their cap gets a message saying

"You've reached your data limit for the month, and speeds will now be limited. For $15GB you can buy an additional 1GB of data. Text "YES" to accept."
I'd bet a lot of people would say yes, and AT&T makes a quick few extra bucks. And it basically eliminates complaints that people got unexpected charges. (Maybe it needs a bit more protection than a single "yes").

The usage for the month counts towards your upgraded plan of you change within the cycle.

What happens on these plans if you go over and you want to pay an overage instead of dropping speed? I presume that's still an option?

I can't find it on the site but I'd assume you can go through the app and upgrade to the next package. So instead of paying $15/1 GB on the old MSV plans, you'd pay $10+ to upgrade to the next tier of data. For me, I'd go from $90/month for 16 GB to $110 for 25 GB. In that case, it seems like a better deal if I go over but want to keep my LTE speeds.

You will lose your rollover allotment from the month before, so keep that in mind.
