I went to use my personal hotspot today and found that the switch wasn't available to turn it on and off. It's been working fine since I set the iPad up on AT&T's new $20 UDP. I then goto Cellular Data then scroll down to Set Up Personal hotspot. That directs me to visit the http://www.att.com/personalhotsots . I tried doing that but it's a dead link. Chat is currently less than helpful with something I think should be an easy fit. Has anyone else had this problem?

Cell data is turned on? (Sorry if it's a dumb question but I got caught by this myself)

Yes. I've been on with AT&T chat for over an hour. What I thought would be a 2 minute fix on their end is turning out to be a project.

I've had this plan since it was released in October. Everything has been working great until I went to use the hotspot today.

One of the reasons I stayed on a tiered data plan.
With UDP AT&T disables the HotSpot.

This is the exact reason that I was asking if he has used it since he has had it

With unlimited, AT&T disables hotspot (on mobile and i believe the ipad)

I've been using it at least 4-5 times per month since I've had the plan. I called AT&T after spending over 90 minutes chatting with an AT&T rep. The rep on the phone is currently looking into it. He just came on to tell me that some of the features for that plan expired on Feb 7th. I've never heard of that before. He's still working on it.

This is the plan that I have - AT&T Unlimited iPad 4G LTE - Includes unlimited domestic wireless data on a tablet. After 22GB data usage, AT&T may slow speeds for remainder of bill cycle. Includes up to 10GB of tethering per month; after 10GB, tethering usage is slowed to max of 128 Kbps. Stream Saver included

Hmm, thats weird. I know when you get unlimited on a phone plan, you have no access to hotspot whatsoever...Mine continued to work until one day when I decided the restart my phone. Once It powered back ont he hotspot ability was lost ever since

No they don’t. Not on the unlimited plus plan.

Once again they do not on the plus plan.

I have noted the same problem on my 20 dollar iPad unlimited plan. I have not called yet but am interested to see what the original poster finds out.

When did yours stop working? It’s been more than 48 hours and I still haven’t heard from AT&T. I now feel that I’m paying for a service that they aren’t providing.

I mentioned this on the other thread, but beside the hotspot problem, I noticed there was no toggle for streamsaver on/off showing up on the web page. I am wondering if they changed the plan to at&t choice features (no hotpot/ 3up/down throttle/streamsaver always on.)

I can live without hotspot (as my phone has it) but the streamsaver/3 up/down is a dealbreaker.

I can either revert the iPad to my older at&t plan, or go to the $30 pay as you go plan, but I am not sure of the limits on those.

Anyone know any good deals on verizon/t-mobile? I actually want to lower the bill, but phone must work everywhere in US, including smaller towns. Mexico/canada/virgin islands a nice bonus if they roam as US.

For me, I need the hot spot on my iPad and would like streamsaver off. I have some time. I think I’m going to call them again.

I just checked while I was out, because LTE is a bit weak at my home, and I was getting throttled to unlimited choice speeds on my iPad, my iPhone on a measured data plan was significantly faster (30 vs 3.5).

I will probably cancel the unlimied iPad if the speeds are not restored soon.

The good thing is that when cell phone companies do no notice changes like this it makes me consider if better deals are out there with other cell companies.

Your onto something! I just tested my speeds. Mid 50s with my phone and 3 for the iPad. I called after my last post. The person I spoke with was very nice but she couldn’t seenwhy my hotspot isn’t working. I was told 1-2 days when I called on the weekend. Her notes say it should be resolved by the 20th.

Time to call back...
[doublepost=1518629820][/doublepost]I called AT&T again. This time I got someone overseas who was much less helpful than the woman I spoke to in the US. I kept leaning towards an issue with my iPad instead of something with the account. In the end he added it to the tech support ticket.

Sometime over the weekend, I don't know exactly when. I am thinking about contacting AT&T but not optimistic of the time frame of getting this fixed.

As I posted in the other thread, I called and had them revert to adding the tablet to my grandfathered mobile value plan. (Discotinuing the unlimited plan for $20 deal.) Hotspot, speed, and features were restored, except for the 1gb canada data bonus that has been discontinued and is now unavailable on my iPad.

Quote:

I had the same issue. It is intentional because they said when system audits that there is no single phone line of Unlimited Plus, it changes automatically to Choice plan as single line iPad line on Unlimited Plus requires that. So I call them whenever it changes to unlimited choice. It used to happen before then too when I gave you the SOC. I reached out to office of president. Then it stayed for 2-3 months until last week. I called customer service and they changed the plan back.

End Quote:

Of course, I have no idea how accurate this claim is, but I didn't want to deal with this every few months after a sweep. I am also continuing to look into the options of either putting the iPad on the prepaid $30 plan, or take all my service over to another provider. (With my FAN discount and need for nationwide service it is challenging to find a better plan for 2 lines + iPad.)

It’s fixed! I called customer service who transferred me to the department that works with iPads. She looked over my account and said my service changed on Feb 6th. She didn’t know why but was able to change it back. I rebooted the iPad and my hotspot was back but my speed was slow (3/3). I rebooted it again and the speeds were back to normal too.

I saw a posting on another forum, and checked that I still have the option. Nice, in case I have to hot spot, that I have 20GB total (10 on phone and 10 on iPad, and the iPad has a bigger battery).

Update - My hotspot disappears every 2-3 weeks. It's got to the point where I've been calling AT&T more than I call my family. I tell them how to fix the problem, they do that then it's good for another 2-3 weeks. Rinse and repeat! Each time I'm told it shouldn't happen again. Today I noticed the bottom was gone again. I wasted 25 minutes on the phone with AT&T. Over 20 of those was in silence as the rep read my account notes. Then... we were disconnected. He never called back. It's not like he didn't have my number!!! At that point I was driving by an AT&T store so I stopped in. Not much help there. The person I spoke with wanted to changed my entire account. I'll call back when I have more time this weekend.

Anyone else still having a problem with this?
