I had a complaint filed for me, through internal means. Though I doubt it will have much effect, I will, at least, get to talk to someone. It will take up to 24 hour(excluding weekends) for them to call me.

dude just switch to verizon.

I have the i4, jailbroken. use My3G for a lot of facetime calls. I also use a lot of iheartradio, pandora, and netflix. I also tether using pda net and never had any issues with verizon. I use 4gbs normally. Never had any issue with verizon.

Good luck but I also doubt it will have much effect.
You need an advocate on your side that can either scare them or emabarass them.

Switching from Att to Verizon won't help because in a couple more months Verizon will take away unlimited data and start cracking down on tethering users such as yourself ;)

Your time is coming soon...

even if they take away unlimited data people who sign up before will still be grandfathered. And i highly doubt they will catch on to tethering. They never have in the past 6-7 years ive been working the in cell phone industry. AT&T has cracked down on tethering many years ago on and off. Verizon never has.

you might want to switch to Verizon.

My only guess is it could be something you have done over the time while you are jail broken that is triggering a false positive so it looks like you are tethering.

I would suggest you do a full factor reset and see if that fixes the problem. I could easily be one of the jail broken Apps that you downloaded that changed something deeper in the phone unknownly over the year or 2. Thing is you might not of known that you did that so no real way to undo it. Best hope is to nuke it and start over and see if that solves it.

yeah you might want to switch to verizon. they never have caught on and honestly their coverage is SO much better.

i'm in an area where service for at&t is unheard of. we lost power for 3 days after bad thunderstorms and we just got it back. my internet isn't working so i'm currently tethered with mywi. verizon+iphone+mywi=amazing.

try and switch if you can.

Same Boat

I am in the same boat as you except I have actually been tethering but lieing to ATT about it ( mom taught me white lies dont count).

I wrote the executive office an email and got a phone call within a day or so.

They reviewed my account and called me back 30 days later.

They said that they did indeed notice tethering on my account and told me if I didn't stop my plan would change.

I told them I had not been tethering and that I would like proof of such.

Another 30 days goes by and they call back saying they spoke to there legal dept. and said they could not provide such proof.

They then told me to send them an email with whatever apps I was using to see if one was creating some sort of false positive.

What all apps should I include on the list and how far should I take this before switching to verizon?

O btw my data usage is below 2gb every month and I am grandfathered in the unlimited plan.

Pandora, Netflix, Youtube, or anything else that uses data heavy.

Well, unfortunately that's AT&T's way of juicing every cent out of you. It doesn't really matter if it's a 3GS or a 4, tethering works in the same fashion.

In Spain most carriers actually encourage you to use your iPhone as a modem, including step-by-step guides on their site and such. But truth be told, I am paying 7 euros for 700 MB and 0.03cent for every MB after that!

I would personally include Netflix and Pandora and any other streaming apps like Time Warner or Hulu Plus if you really wanted to be convincing, but in the end you'd still be lying to them. Not to preach morality to anyone, but I have always learned the hard way that things such as this will always come back around a bite you in the face.

Please save the 16yr old girl karama speech. At the end of the day data is data no matter what device I use it on. If I were going over my 5gb of "unlimited" data then they might have a leg to stand on. Just because some company draws up a policy after I have signed an agreement doesnt mean I am doing anything wrong so stick it.

Hey sick,

Can you log into AT&T's site, goto Wireless - Usage & Recent Activity, scroll to Additional Data Purchased Usage, click "View Details" for your number, look for a data/time you know you tethered, and then see what is says for your To/From column? For reference, untethered sessions should always show as "phone" or possibly "wap.cingular".

My gut feeling is that your tethering traffic says "broadband" there not, "phone" or "wap.cingular".

Please check and share your finding.

Cheers!

Actually, 'at the end of the day', a contract is a contract.

The only thing a person can't have stolen from them is their word, so perhaps you should think about karma....
