Hi, I have an iPhone 4 that i want to trade in for at&t's $200 promo. I cracked the display on my iPhone 4 a year ago and bought a replacement screen off of amazon and installed it on my phone. The screen is pretty good, and you can't even tell I replaced the screen. My question is, will at&t know I replaced the screen? Does the store check, or do they send it to some type of a specialist that audits the phone for things like this?

Thanks for your help!

As long as it functions normally, they won't know if you don't tell them.

Don't they check? Because i had a friend who tried to trade in her old iPhone 4s with gazelle and they wouldn't take it because there was a non-original backplate. I'm not sure how they can tell it is a real or chinese knockoff.

AT&T isn't going to take apart the phone. As long as it functions and looks good, it'll be accepted.

I too have to replace the backplate on my 4S before trading it in, but I'm almost certain AT&T won't do a 200-point inspection of the phone. They'll inspect for cracks, water damage, and if Find my iPhone is turned off, basically...

Is at&t the one that is checking the phone, or do they outsource it to another company that checks the phones and approves/disapproves the phones in an audit? If a company were in the business of re-selling traded in phones, wouldn't it be in their best interest to reject phones that have non-oem parts?

I was under the impression that AT&T does the inspection in-house, as the trade-in credit is applied at the point-of-sale a the retail stores.

Oh yeah, I mis-read the terms and condition of the trade in. Looks like they do in fact give you and immediate trade-in credit. Do you or anyone know if the trade-in credit can be used to purchase an iPhone 6, or do you get the credit after you purchase the iPhone 6?

My friend went to AT&T and was quoted for $200 with an old iPhone 4 he had in the drawer. He was happy because he didn't think he'd get much anymore for it.

Wondering the same thing. Not sure I feel okay doing the change out myself. How cheap do those stores replace the front glass?

I am thinking Apple looks a bit closer than the ATT store.

Or do I just keep my 5S with cracked screen for backup

I went to att and the rep told me in person that I can fix a phone and he said "hey, if I can't tell, then it's accepted." Even though I'm telling him right there that id be fixing it

OMG YES THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY! I was literally about to go on eBay and look for used iPhone 4 screens extracted from dead devices. I mean they're pretty cheap ($15-30). But, I just don't want to waste money and an hour to tidy up a phone that I have to trade in.

Looks like I'll be trading in my "non oem display" iPhone 4 to at&t and they can deal with that. I deal with a outrageous bill every month, then they can deal with a ****** iPhone trade.
