it's not fluff son...AT&T is Apple's only partner in the US...if Apple is selling a ton of phones in the US who do you suppose is activating them? The only carrier with the ability to do so....don't be so blinded by your personal bias...and just because AT&T is growing does not mean that Verizon stopped growing...they have a lot of new Droid owners on big red...think critically and not through fanboy colored lenses

I had a hard time understanding how the poster you responded to was using "fanboy-colored lenses". I guess I did not get the same thing from his post. I mean to me, the "fanboy" is the guy who offers gushing praise and irrational criticism of competitors. It sounds something like this:

If it weren't for Apple then every American business would be in the toilet because Apple is setting the example of how to be profitable and other companies are following their example. Sony better be listening too because they are still producing Blu-Ray players like PS3 and Steve Jobs has already declared that "Blu-Ray is a world of hurt". If you want to succeed, follow Apple's lead.

or....

Android is all about freedom and Apple is all about imprisoning you in their "walled garden". Google wants us all to be able to use whatever apps or data we want. They make all this free too because they love humanity, unlike greedy Steve Jobs who just wants your money. Free and open is the only way. Hooray for Google!

Anyway, I missed your point on fanboyism. Personally, I think the word is a bit over-used in these forums since everyone who bothers to spend time on this forum is a "fan" of something Apple or one of their competitors.

is hard to get the last piece of the new users, they have now to make sure to keep all of us that are right now w/ them happy so that they can keep reaping upgrade contracts and making good money.

thanks for your input but I was talking to that other guy not you;) and for the record "carrier fanboyism is a real"

AT&T was larger than Verizon until Verizon purchased Alltel in 2009 and gained nearly 15 million new customers. Since then, AT&T has been catching up. I think they are only about 1-2 million short of Verizon right now.....depending on Verizon's 3Q Earnings tomorrow.

Yes, AT&T has been catching up --- no, it has nothing to do with the iphone. Most of the AT&T net adds comes from cheap MVNO customers from Tracfone and $2 a month APRU from ereaders.

AT&T's numbers included about 6-7 million ereaders/connected devices which Verizon's oft-publicized numbers don't. If you count the 7 million+ ereaders/connected devices that Verizon has, then Verizon Wireless is about 7-8 million subscribers larger than AT&T Wireless.

You would think that ATT would mention Apple regardless if they are loosing exclusivity. Apple is still their number 1 money making smart phone and you have to show some respect. They are acting as if they are loosing Apple all together next year.

Not sure I agree. Apple is already producing as many as they can....and all of the world's 168 Carriers that support the iPhone are desperate for more. So if more US carriers get the iPhone, Apple is still limited by production limits.

If production limits are a problem you open another factory (or two) and pump out as many as possible.

The best way to settle the dispute over AT&T vs. Verizon is to admit the truth. They both suck and are overpriced:D. Each network has it's plus' and minus'. The rest of the competition runs a distant third.

I'm not sure where the iPhone 4 shortages are in the US. The shipping time is down and I walked into my Apple store Tuesday, asked if they had them in stock and they asked which one did I want as they had both the 16GB and 32GB models. I left a happy camper. Love the phone, I've had the original and the 3Gs versions, and this is the best by far.

Google's Android software continued its rocket-like ascent over the summer, ending the third quarter with the dominant market share in the United States among smartphone operating systems and a solid No. 2 globally.

Manufacturers installed Android on 9.1 million smartphones shipped in the United States between July 1 and Sept. 30, according to Canalys, a technology research firm, in a report released Monday. That gave the software 43.6 percent of the smartphone market during the period, up from 34 percent in the second quarter of this year and just 5.4 percent in the third quarter last year.

Worldwide, manufacturers shipped 20.3 million Android phones in the third quarter. That was up a whopping 1,297 percent from the same period last year and gave Android 25.1 percent of the global market. That put it second to Symbian, sponsored by Nokia and predominantly found on its phones, which had 37 percent of the market.
