Android PHONES are generally horrible for the most part, and so they don't need any special events for releases.
Arrogant and snobbish attitudes like this are why I no longer bring up any of the Apple hardware I own and downplay the relevance whenever it comes up.

Why are they blacking out the days before the launch? Wouldn't it make sense to black out the days after the launch to make up for the added traffic the phone will generate?

I was thinking the same thing. The only thing I could think of is IOS5 on current devices, and the billion support issues they will have.

Curious though why they would just black out up to the release date and not the following week as well

Very good point! This, in combo with VZW iPhones stuck at IOS 4.2.10, does not bode well.

So your saying that after apple and verizon had an event and made a huge announcement about the two companies working together, they decided to part ways for no apparent reason?

They will probably have some mandatory orientation/training to prepare that they can't have vacation on. I'd say vacation will be severely limited all of October in general.

What I'm not getting is this: I understand there being a blackout for the iOS 5 release. But if the next generation iPhone is supposed to come out on the 14th, why does the blackout period end around then, and not after? I would think the busiest time would be weeks before AND after release. Not solely before...

It's called planning, preperation,and training.

Contract Upgrades?

Has there been any word on whether AT&T will allow early upgrades? I purchased the iPhone 4 on the first day it was released, and my AT&T account says I am not eligible for another upgrade until the end of November.

You don't need to do that, just don't be a dick about owning any particular brand of technology. The are some very good Android phones, many people (myself) included just prefer the Apple offering.

Blind hope

I currently work for a company with over 250 employees where over 75% of them are blind. They all have iPhones because they're the only smartphones fully operable by the blind.

They're all excited about the "Let's Talk iPhone" because they'll now be able to speak to their phones and not have to 'touch' everything to communicate with it. Most will buy the new iPhone without waiting for their contracts to expire. Steve Jobs is God-sent for them. He's made and continues to make many thousands of lives easier significantly better to live.

Chances are it will be a nope and double nope on the iPhone because they will be in short supply.
They might be willing to do for any phone but the iPhone but no way in hell for the iPhone.

I have a Nexus One, but I don't use it much anymore now that AT&T cracked down on tethering:

Plus: Really nice hardware
Con: Uninspired software

Apple would have to announce something pretty special for me to replace my iP4 and re-up my contract with AT&T.

They did for the iPhone 4, which was also in short supply if I recall.

Stupid 2YR contracts and no early-upgrade anymore *grumble grumble*.

Also I guess I'd have to change my username...

my AT&T lines are all due for upgrade after less than 2 years with current phone. my wife's iphone 4 is due for upgrade as well. depends on how much money you kick up to AT&T every month

That is an early upgrade. Standard contract is 24 months. You bought the iPhone 4 in June when it came out, November would be 17 months.

From the article, "AT&T source also indicates that the carrier has added six new placeholder listings for "new products" in its internal database."

So, what six are they?

iPhone 4s - 16GB, 32GB and 64GB in white and black?

or

Iphone 5 - 16GB and 32GB in white and black along with an iPhone 4s 8GB in white and black?

:D

oo just as great news, I just found out there is a U-verse user in the same city as me with the same area code, I hope that means U-verse is finally available. Time Warner just came in as well, I can't wait to upgrade to some DSL+ speeds!!!

Probably the latter. No clue why people buy last generation products with a contact, but they do.
