Carrier AT$T next and delayed delivery upgrade

Can anyone who is on AT$T next that has previously used the upgrade program on a delayed phone tell me:

If I make the final payment that makes me eligible for upgrade but the X is delayed for a month or two... do they continue to charge me the monthly installment charge for my current phone until it's finally delivered?

I didn't have an issue last year since we got our phone on release day...
