So I upgrade every year through AT&T Next but I'm a bit confused with their Trade and Save option? Does this ONLY apply to those who have their phones paid off or does it also apply for those of us who are on AT&T Next and/or Installment Plan?

I plan on going with the 13 Pro 512GB version.

If you have AT&T next and you have paid 50% of the cost of the phone you can upgrade. And then you send your old phone back. Most of us do not have 50% paid because it’s a 30 month plan I believe. I paid off the $200 I need to get to 50%. And then it showed is eligible for an upgrade.

What is quite notable this year is if you are on the unlimited elite plan, they will give you $500 in bill credits up to $500 depending on your phone if you trade in your old phone and upgrade via AT&T next. This has basically the effect of Giving you the phone free for one year.

They have never done this before. It only seems to apply if you do it through AT&T’s website. That’s a very good deal.

They give up to $500 off. So you’ll get your $239 back plus the rest … but that’s only over 36 months of bill credits.

There’s no guarantee of an offer next year. If you keep the phone though, you will have paid a lot more off and be well be on the 50% paid at that point. But you’ll be in the same boat. And you will have paid more money towards the phone if you try to trade it in again. Do you see what I’m saying? You’re better off doing the deal now.

Pre-orders opened early for me so I was able to get a 512 Pro Max for 24th delivery via AT&T.
Here is the kicker though. The total cost for me will be $30 a month after bill credit. I’m currently paying 45. And that includes the five dollar next up fee. It’s something like a $14 a month bill credit.

I paid $199 to upgrade early. In one year, I’m going to get $168 back in bill credits. So essentially, in the end, the early upgrade was free for me.

And if I keep the phone beyond one year and don’t trade it in next year, they will continue to credit me and I will save another $168 and so on.

I always get a new phone each year, so I’ll probably upgrade again next year and pay the upgrade fee which will be about $220. Unless they have a similar deal where I may break even again.

But if I don’t… I’m saving money

Got it thank you for the explanation . I ended paying my 239.00 so I can upgrade. 13 pro max 256 .. got the 500 credit …. Will pay the diff next year to be able to upgrade to the 14 when that time comes .

thats what I did. I paid 199 to upgrade the phone. I’m going to get about 189 back in credits over the next year. So it was a wash. Next year we start this mess all over again and they are spacing the next up payments over 36 months now so the payoff cost will be higher for the iPhone 14. Assuming they offer another offer… That will blunt the upgrade cost. Rinse and repeat I guess every single year. At some point though, I would like to get off this train and just use the iPhone upgrade program. But AT&T’s monthly cost significantly cheaper

Figured it out, it's just AT&T's website that was confusing me, it didn't actually display the amount I have to pay off to upgrade. With AT&T Next you typically have to pay half of the phone off to be eligible to upgrade. Their website however didn't display this and instead only displayed the FULL amount left to be paid off smh.

I'll be eligible to upgrade in 4 months which I'm perfectly fine with.
