att says "by June 7" (whatever that means) and Apple says "by June 6" (whatever that means - SPECIFICALLY-).

NICE

In the UK, the iPhone 3G has sold out on the three major networks - Vodafone, Orange and O2. So possibly the launch date of the new model could be earlier than expected.

I think the rumors of the new 4G iPhone is a sham.

The REAL reason that they discontinued the 3G is that Apple could afford all the phone line and Genius' to answer the phone because the latest firmware & the 3G sucks. Slow! Just not the right user experience.

So ... move along ... nothing to see here.
:D

So the timing was right - I've purchased a brand-new iPhone 3G at a good price today. I wanted a new mp3 player and a navigational system for my car, an easy-to-use phone and I did not want to carry around more than one gadget. The 3G does all that and I didn't want to spend more money on it than I just did. :)

Hmmm I want to sell my 3GS ready for the new iPhone but not sure if it will be sold on pay as you go/unlocked here in the UK at launch.

Dont want to sell my shiny 3GS :) and then have no option to get the latest model.

I only upgraded in February, so my only option is to buy the phone unlocked and then ask O2 to transfer all my details over to a new micro sim.

I have a friend who bought an iPhone last night at an Att store... She bought one of the three left they had. Not what I would've done...

I wonder if the Refurb 3G 8GB's will be out of stock? They're still in stock. I wanted to buy one for a family member instead of getting the 3GS (3G is enough for them.)

Should I just get it now since it's available? I was wondering if AT&T will make the 3GS Refurbs the same price as the 3G when the new one is announced.

The person that's gonna use it is not tech savvy and I'd rather see the extra $50 go somewhere else.

I've used both so I know how 3G lags, but I don't think that'd be a problem for this specific person.

Apple is going to save some money this year when it comes to storage capacities. With the brand new iPhone hardware and it's higher quality components, I see Solid State Storage staying the same, with a new 64 gb model commanding a premium. For the first time in 4 consecutive launches, the storage capacities will not double at the same price, you can mark that down as a definite:

Expect as of June 07...

iPhone 3GS 16 gb - $99

iPhone HD 16 gb - $199
iPhone HD 32 gb - $299
iPhone HD 64 gb - $399

Honestly I find this logic completely backwards. People that are not tech savy do not casually accept lag as being normal. I wouldn't buy anyone a 3G at all, as the battery life is terrible, and the choppy animations will not give the person a very good opinion of the iPhone in general.

Have you done a study on this?

What do you think people who've toted a 3G, like myself, have enjoyed using? I saw no reason to get the 3GS. A few bumps in the speed and camera but that wasn't enough for me to jump. Especially knowing Apple's cycle and that a speed bump with no major overhaul like we'll see in the 4th gen is just to keep sales up, costs low and convince people that the new iPhone is in fact 'new.'

Yes, the 3GS is better than the 3G but don't think the 3G is terrible just because the new one is out. We'll have to apply that logic to the 3GS in about 2 weeks.

Launch wise, I wonder what the drop off in sales has been once the new iPhone leaked. You could make all kinds of predictions if we knew that info.

I sold my 3G to buy a second hand 3GS for a good price or the new iphone. The 3G is a great device but its damn slow. I really hate the lag on the device. If it was just a bit faster I wouldnt have sold it.

Gotta agree. While I definitely want a newer phone, it's more cause my contract is up, means it will be cheap, and I love new gadgets (I'll admit it, it's mostly cause I'm a gadget whore that I want the new one). And honestly, I really do want a better camera and video camera capability in my phone. Sure, I'm going to love if it is faster. But, I'm upgrading cause I love gadgets and so far I tend to go out and buy a new phone everytime my contract is up. It has bit me in the butt at least once (well, not really as while I liked the phone that one replaced, the phone that one replaced was having issues due to me leaving it in the rain a few times. You had to recharge it everynight or it would not have enough power to last the day. And before the iphone I didn't remember to charge my phone every night cause I barely used it. Getting in touch with me by phone was not reliable at all. It still isn't but now I might get the message sometime that day rather than days later).

Anyways, my point is the 3G is still a good phone. And if you were on a tight budget but still thought you could swing at least the data plans (I have a coworker who reluctantly gave up her iphone cause she couldn't afford the data plan), I'd definitely recommend it even now.
